I Hate Eating....

Recommended Posts

Yep... I said it I hate eating. Who would believe those words came out of my mouth. What a complete life style change to adapt to. Everyday is a chore eating. It starts out good, the first bite goes down smooth after chewing chewing chewing. Then the second bite causes burping and more burping, etc. By the third bite... holy crap. I feel tightness in my chest and the pain starts. I get up and walk and burp which takes the pain away after 10 mins. Then the process starts all over again with the same outcome and I do chew chew chew and space the bites. Oh, I forgot to mention that the food I may have eaten yesterday will definitely cause me to vomit today. My calorie count and Protein is way off which is causing me a slow loss. I am frustrated, very frustrated. Who wants to drink nine glasses of milk a day to meet my Fluid and protein count everyday. But it seems that it is working better than eating.

Bless you! I had a really rough start, too--and have eventually moved into feeling great!! You will, too. Are you taking an antacid? I had big-time problems with throwing up DAILY for the first two months--then I read on this board about people taking Prilosec, and that saved my sanity and stopped the throwing up. What a relief!!!

Also, you might find that backing up to an earlier stage of food choices might help. I stayed on soft/mushy for a lot longer than most. And I'll let you in on a little secret: I have NEVER met my Protein goals. Not once. Never. And my blood numbers are just fine for Protein, I still have lots of hair, I feel fantastic, etc. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'll take it. My point is, don't stress. Do what you can do as you can do it. If you can tolerate the Protein shakes, try those. Try bars. Try softer protein foods like Greek yogurt, regular yogurt, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury broth, or whatever. You will find the combination of things that works.

Meantime, HUGS to you from the owner of another picky sleeve--it's not fun, that's for sure, but I hope you'll experience the success you want soon!!

I know how you feel, i used to dread eating, I did it because i was hungry and had to but it was painful and a chore just like you said.. it gets better I promise. I am 8 months out and i can eat without hurting and actually take pleasure in eating (don't know if that's a good thing, lol).. every day it will get better

Yes, in the beginning I hated eating too. I ate alot of mushies, yogurt, sf pudding, Soups, whatever was easy to go down. Now I don't have any difficulties eating and I'm 4.75 months post op.

So it does get better, hang in there! ;)

It is such a RELIEF to hear other people feel the same way I do about eating post surgery! I hope this is just a temporary phase because some days it really stinks that nothing sounds appealing to eat.

Sorry to hear it's so rough for you right now, but it definitely gets easier every day! I would like to suggest as soon as the burps start, no matter how little you've eaten, to stop before you get to the tight uncomfortable feeling. Sometimes hiccups and burps are early out full signals. I know it may seem ridiculous on how little it takes to get to this point, but for now just listen to your body.

:)

I'd say eating was a hassle until I was a good 3 months out, as well. I definitely remember having moments where I looked at something that seemed appetizing and then dreaded the possibility of sliming from eating it - sliming is very unpredictable. You just gotta focus on nutrition and try to tough it out for the next few weeks. And yes, eating more liquidy or soft foods will make it easier.

I am 5 months out, and my FAVORITE food is "boiled eggs", chicken... cheese and yogurt... soft foods, because other foods still bother me.. I tried to eat grapes the other day and OH my... nope after one I could tell that was not going to work... take it slow.... drink your Protein... and try to eat what you can.

Best of luck to you ♥

I'm one mo out & I find eating torturous. I'm hungry & miserable. O am soooo tired of all mushies. I hate th actually. I can't stand the shakes so I try to get a Protein Bar down each day. I want to chug Water but can barely tolerate sipping. I am so hopeful that like others this gets better. I miss normal food. Healthy food like salad, sushi, fish..... Fingers crossed it gets better for both of us!

I hate eating too and I am 3.5 months post op. My whole day consists of 3 Protein drinks, cheese sticks, and popsicles. Thats it and that all. I have tried food but it all hurt me so now I get so nervous and anxious that I refuse to eat at all. I would rather stick to the things that are safe then to venture out and hurt later. I read that Im allowed veggies now so I am going to try nibbling on some raw carrots and maybe some other raw veggies and see how it goes. Im so sick of my current diet, plus with as little as I eat I still stall! Im in a stall right now what a crock. LoL. We will get there I know it, it just takes time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
