Hi everyone. My name is Cheryl and I live in the Kent area. I was banded 2 years ago by Dr. Oh, like so many of you. I have lost a total of 87 lbs and have been at 114 lbs for the past several months. I will be having a Tummy Tuck with Lipo done this Thursday morning. I am very excited, but a bit nervous , also. Have any of you had a TT done? I know Merrillee (I hope I spelled that right) will be having one on April 1st.

HI Cheryl,

Welcome! Wow - sounds like you've done really well. Congratulations. Alot of us are still fairly new bandsters - less than a year- so it will be nice to have a more experienced bandster around.

Who is doing your TT? I'll be praying for you that it all goes well. I'm hoping to have one as well once I lose all the weight I want to. I'm 5'5" and I want to get around 130 I'm around 170 right now, so I still have a ways to go.

Please write and let us know how everything goes for you.

Dawn

Welcome Cheryl...

Congratulations! It's so good to hear from banders who have had great long term success. You'll be in my prayers on Thursday, keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I too would be interested in who your surgeon is and how you made that choice. I'm probably looking at a full lower body lift some day in the future.

Thanks, Sue and Dawn. I especially appreciate the prayer.

I will be having my surgery done by Dr. Mangubat. One of the assistants is a bariatrics surgeon. He is now a 'fellow' in the reconstructive/cosmetic surgery field. I found him by searching the internet. I had two other consultations. One was with a very nice doctor, but she wanted to charge me over $10,000 for a 'modified' Tummy Tuck. That didn't count the cost for hospital of another over $2500.00. That was after the payment that she would get from my insurance co for a panneculectomy. That was just too much. On top of that, they never returned phone calls and I had to wait too long at my appointments. I actually had a surgery date. I was working with her from January.

I am anxious to see what comes of this. I go in today to get a slight unfill. I think that will make the surgery a little more comfortable. I will keep you informed on how things go.

I am going in at 11:00 tomorrow morning, surgery at 11:30. I expect it to take around 4 hours. I will have the TT, Lipo to the waist, tummy and hips. He doesn't think I will need a muscle repair. He's concerned about my large gallbadder scar and how it will heal. Have to see about the blood circulation in that area. I will trust God that all will go well. I will not be spending the night-- and-- NO DRAINS. That is one of the best parts. He says I should be able to return to work in about 10 days-2 weeks. Although, I plan to stay out for 3 weeks.

Sorry this is so long.

Cheryl

Hello all,

I'm sending out prayer requests to all who feel led. It's a very sad day for my family. My cousin has been in ICU since last Friday. They have diagnosed her with Moyamoya disease. It's very rare and usually only occurs in women of Asian descent so this is very rare in a caucasian. Yesterday they did an MRI and have confirmed that she is brain dead. She is only 48. My heart is just breaking. She has two boys, her youngest only being a Junior in HS. Now her husband has to make the terrible decision to pull the plug or not. This is all just so unexpected and so horribly, horribly sad. I'm pulling on all my faith to try ---- not to understand for that might never happen, but to have some peace with this and also for God to give me the right words to try to help her husband and boys.

Please everyone, take very opportunity you have to let your family and those close to you know how very much they mean to you. In a split second everything can change.

Dawn...

So hard to understand why. I will definitely keep your entire family in my prayers, and ask for God's peace for all. I will also pray for Him to guide you as to how you can support the family.

Cheryl...

What hospital does Dr. Mangubat work out of (or where is the office). Sounds like a really good situation to have a bariatric doc assisting.

Was the gallbladder before your band or were your gallbladder problems a result of weight loss? I've had 3 gallbladder attacks in the last couple months, just wondering what your experience was with the issue.

Good luck tomorrow!

Sue

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
