Getting A Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

HI everyone...just a quick question..were you able to pick a surgery date or did they pretty much tell you the date you could have it on?

the reason I am asking is because my bariatric coordinator said I can be prepared to have my surgery like the first part of May given the approval time period...My family wants to come from Georgia to be with me here in Texas and my mom said it would work out better if I could do it the first part of June;.due to siblings getting out of school at the end of May and one graduating from a program she is enrolled in...

so i say all that to ask...can I pick my own surgery date? lol i kno some of you would be like 'the sooner the better' but my family really wants to be there and I dont have any family close by me that could be there for support or to help afterwards...

ABSOLUTELY YOU CAN PICK YOUR DATE AS LONG AS THE DR. HAS AN OPENING FOR YOU THAT DAY YOU PICK. THEY CAN ONLY DO WHAT YOU ALLOW THEM TO DO AND DO IT WHEN YOU WANT THEM TO. ESSENTIALLY THEY ARE WORKING FOR YOU!

:welcome: hi Smile0

Since the date in June is so far away, there shouldn't be any problem getting that as your day of surgery. As you said most people want to get an earlier date. In this case where you want your family around, at the beginning of June, there shouldn't be any problem having surgery the exact day that is most convenient for you.

keep reading our great board - and write too, and ask any and all questions - take care as you get more and more excited on your long journey ahead

best wishes

kathy

Once my insurance approved my surgery the coordinator called. She asked me what time frame did I have in mind. She immediately started with the date that was the earlier available which was only 2 weeks out from now and then asked did I prefer something later. I had a lot of flexibility because my surgeon performs surgery 4 days a week and there is another surgeon within the practice who performs them 4 days a week as well, so obviously they are able to get in you in a lot quicker than most practices. It's always best to let them know you're trying to coordinate family members arrival with your surgery date so that they can help you find the date that best works for you.

Best of Luck!

Make sure your doc's office won't make you jump through any more hoops. I know that with Kaiser, if the surgery wasn't done within 6 months, I would have had to do the 12 week classes all over. ;)

I sat down with my Dr and he gave me a suggested date and he was flexable about it. He originally told me the last Monday in May but I had boughten my hubby $350 hockey tix and with the game being 1 week after I wouldnt be able to go! Dr had nooo problem moving it back and now Im going for April 9th (: Doesnt hurt to talk to your doctor, this is your life, you pay him!

I have Cigna, I had to do 6 months of dr visits with the bariatric dr, 2 visits pre op and 1 visit post op with the nutritionist, a psychiatric clearance, and a pulmonologist clearance to get it done here in NJ. Not sure if its different there though. They didnt say anything about it being within such amount of a time frame after though...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
