I am desperate to not lose my hair. I am so faithful about my Protein. I have been at Protein "goal" of minimum 60g since the day after I came home from the hospital and also I am eating these huge Vitamins.

Some people I have talked to say I will lose it regardless, but I am doing everything in my power not to.

I am not quite two weeks out yet, but no Hair loss that I can tell. I know that's too soon to count on though!

I think I got lucky then. My Protein intake sucked because I couldn't tolerate supplements and I couldn't eat enough food to get my numbers up to where they should be. If I'd known my Protein intake could have caused me to lose my hair, I might have started grazing throughout the day or something. lol

Well, that gives me hope then! Although I've got Hair loss issues due to menopause anyway..... It falls out then grows back. Repeatedly. Blech. I'm going to do my best to keep it, but I'm with bionicbroad.... i'd rather be skinny! ;)

I'm 3 1/2 months post op and so far so good. no Hair loss yet. I struggle with getting in enough Protein. So I won't be surprised if it does happen.

At almost 5 months out, I'm shedding a bit more than usual but not losing it by handfuls like other people have said. I'm lucky to have a lot of hair so either way I haven't been very concerned about it - I have plenty to spare. Sorry for those of you who are having a rough time with Hair loss, I'm sure it's frustrating. :(

I am just over 6 months post-op. I started noticing real Hair loss at about 3 1/2 to 4 months. It got so bad that I spent hours before I would go to work trying to arrange my remaining hair to cover the really thin spots, where you could see my scalp plain as day! ( I have a LOT more sympathy for those guys who do the comb over thing now!) I finally sucked it up and bought my first wig. I LOVE it! It is SO much easier to get ready for work or to go out! And I think it looks really natural! I now have six wigs, all very similar to what my hair looked like before my surgery, but just a little bit different style from each other, and a little bit different color. A week or so ago, my husband asked if I wanted him to shave my head for me. I kept worrying about strands of my own hair slipping out from under my wig, and was self conscious about it. So he got his clippers out, and the hair is gone! I love my wigs, and think they look very natural (see my profile picture).

I have been taking Protein supplements since my surgery, getting well over 80 GMs of protein daily. I take two prenatal Vitamins twice a day, take Biotin, use Nioxin Shampoo and Minoxidil treatment on my scalp, and still my hair fell out. So I think that some people are going to experience hair loss no matter what!. But I am firmly with Bionicbroad! I would rather be thin and bald than Fat and Hairy!!! I love my new body, and love the looks and compliments I get about how I look! (I had a guy try to pick me up a couple weeks ago when I was Christmas shopping, a First!!!) I will always take Bald and thin over Fat and Hairy!

My Hair loss started at 4 months out!!!! Hope for the best but expect the worst. I thought it wouldn't happen to me either and I have lost 25% of my hair in a few weeks now. :-(

At my last required appointment/class for insurance requirements the physicians asst. explained that because of the shock to our bodies of the rapid weight loss and the changes in our diet the hair tends to take a break from growing so to speak at around month 3-4. He said the Biotin and other products might help some and sure doesn't hurt. He even mentioned that some use rogaine.

In the day of hair extensions being so popular I will definitely look into that if need be. My daughter has some clip in extensions that are made from human hair that she bought for prom but has really enjoyed them and the ease of putting them in so she wears them often. She paid $75 for it at Sally's. She couldn't get them matched exactly so she took the extensions to her hair stylist and she colored my daughter's hair to match the extensions. She curls them and straightens them just like her regular hair.

My hair started thinning at 4 months and is still shedding faster than usual at 7 months. I have not had to change my style. As you can see in profile pic, taken Dec. 23, it still looks good. It makes a really scrawny ponytail though!

I am 3.5 mos out, and so far, so good .. I admit, I struggle to meet my Protein goals and don't always hit the marker ... but so far, no significant Hair loss, although I am prepared to lose hair since everyone says they do...I'm just holding my breath for now ... I also switched shampoos prior to my surgery (9/24/11) to a sulphate free Shampoo, so not sure if that has been helping or not, but so far, so good .. I, too, have a thick head of hair so I would be sad to experience significant hair loss, but as everyone else says, I would rather be healthy & lose weight & some hair, if need be, knowing that eventually it will grown back and I would still be a healthier me! Here's to a happy & healthy new year for all of us out there!

I am 10 months out and I am 61 and a male. Honestly my hair is so thin on top I couldn't tell if I had lost any or not. I have had a bald spot on my crown for years and felt lucky that that was all I had as my mother's brother was bald in his 30's and my grandfather was bald as well.

Sorry, I am no help on that issue.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
