New Here - My Introduction

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am new to your forum and am happy to be here! I live in Cuenca, Ecuador with my 12 year old son. We made the permanent move in July of this year from Seattle. It has been an adjustment but we are getting settled little by little.

My husband passed away from ALS in September 2009. I had gained a bunch of weight during his illness and after. I decided I had to do something positive for my health and decided on the vertical sleeve. I had the procedure done on December 10, 2011. I thought I had done my research and due diligence but wasn't really prepared for the recovery. I thought it would be snip, snip, go! I was in the hospital for 4 nights. My weight at surgery was 238 pounds and after 10 days I had lost 10 pounds, so I am pleased! I will have to calculate my BMI and post it (I am 5'4").

I left the hospital with a drainage tube which was very painful after a couple of days and I finally had it removed (quite painful). I started feeling better immediately but still walk a bit gingerly,

Overall, I am thrilled with the decision and look forward to a lighter 2012! This is a very informative site with tons of great information and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Thank you so much! I have a couple of friends here in Cuenca who had the sleeve about 2 years ago, but there is nothing like an online community of friends! How did you get your weight loss tracker into your profile? My doctor hasn't said anything about Protein Powder but I am considering it since I don't have much energy at all...and I got some Prilosec yesterday, which is helping alot. My doctor gets back from Buenos Aires next week and I have alot of questions for him!

Thanks! I will email you after I pick up Eamon from his Spanish class. He is not happy to be in Spanish on his vacation from school - life can be hard when you are 12!

Welcome. This forum is an amazing source of support and we are so excited to have you here! I am sorry about your loss, yet I am so happy about your new start with the sleeve. The drain was very painful for me too when they took it out. I look forward to hearing about your journey. It sounds like you are already off to a great start!

Welcome! It is good to have a community with whom to share this experience.

You have had a tremendous amount of stress and change in your life in the last few years -- wow! I commend you for your strength to keep at it and to make changes in your life now. Your son will thank you when you live longer because you are healthier.

I think that even with a lot of research about the surgery, the reality is always something beyond that. It takes time to adjust. Sounds like you are doing well!

Heel I was wondering if your still Cuenca? My parents will be moving there soon. I hoping to have my surgery there and recoup for a few months. I was wondering if you had it done there? Who your Dr was? Thanks! Sorry I know this is an old thread

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
