Yikes! I Broke My Foot!

Recommended Posts

One month out from VSG, I was walking every day and feeling great...and I stepped off the front porch and severely broke my left foot! Now I am in a wheelchair for two months. I had to have surgery and now I have a plate in my foot and six titanium screws.

I'm slowly coming off the pain meds and getting a little exercise going out with the wheelchair. I'm going back to teaching high school science in a week.

I tried crutches and a knee walker, but don't have the upper-body strength to not hurt myself. The knee walker was really hard on my abdominal wall.

So, I guess I'll be doing stretches with resistance bands for an upper body workout.

I haven't lost any weight for a few weeks after losing 27 pounds in the first month. I'm doing well on the diet my doctor recommended...just not losing weight...kind of a let down...

Hugs! I noticed when I went for my presurgery support group that several people in the group had crutches and casts on their feet. It made me wonder about it.

I hope you recover quickly. I know how frustrating it can be when you injure your foot, but I want to tell you to let your foot heal. I broke my ankle in 1997, and I think I tried to do too much too fast. (I was on crutches from December 97 to April 98.) I had three little ones including one who could not yet walk. I learned to push her in a stroller while I walked behind on crutches, etc. I think if I had stayed off my foot longer than tried to find alternatives to make it work, my ankle would have done a better job healing. So rest!

Marearose, so sorry to hear that you've broken your foot so severely. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and be encouraged that this is a set back to a degree but you will overcome it. Best luck on your health and recovery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
