December sleevers!

Recommended Posts

I'm one week out, and I'm starting to get really nervous. Good thing I already paid my fee--I'm all in now! Part of me thinks this is a really bad idea. I know it's not, but I'm having some serious jitters.

I'm trying to think of it the same way as I did Lasik a couple of years ago--yes, there are risks, but the odds are on my side. Still, I'm going thousands of miles away from home by myself to be put under anesthesia and cut open...aaaaaah!

I am calm. I am calm. I am calm...

Please don't be scared. Everything will be fine. The hardest part will probably be that you are so far away from home. I was sleeved one week ago, with no pain or nausea or anything. I have a strong faith and had so many people praying for me. I will be praying for you that you will come to peace with this so you will be in a good frame of mind, You need to have a strong attitude going in. Just relax. You will be on the loser's bench with us before you know it. Janet

Got sleeved on Monday. Released from the hospital today. Feel pretty good. Still a little sore but I've had so many surgeries before I knew what to expect. Was a bit scared on Monday as I was feeling hungry and thought "oh no it didn't work", but when I was able to order Clear Liquids yesterday I realized it did work. Getting down a few sips of clear broth and a few bites of Jello was all I could handle. Today I got down about 5 oz of a Protein Shake and a couple of cherry italian ices. Water isn't really too fun. Lots of heartburn. But glad its over, glad I did it, and glad to be on the losers bench! My blood sugars are still high. Hoping that is from surgical stress and will settle down soon. Good luck to everyone.

Wow, that is rough to be on clear liquids for a full week after surgery. I only had to do that for 2 days, then have been on Protein liquids since then.

I am 10 days out from surgery now, feeling pretty good... but still pretty low energy. Went shopping, need a nap now. :)

I'm sleeved and home. 2-days with excellent care and a huge lack of sleep. I'm tracking intake and output and am on a liquid diet for the next 2-4 week.

My doctor found something odd within me. My esough muscles were fingered into my stomch, He stated in all the years doing this procedure he had never encounter this. But, he said is was smooth sailing to make the adjustment. I've got a 2-3 oz pouch.

My drain was removed and I am able to sip 2oz of fulid at a time now. I will start back on protien shakes and Soups tomorrow.

The gas pain was the worst next to removing the drain....that hurt even with pain killers. I walked around the entire floor at a fast pace...it felt good.

Thank you all for your support. I'll post back in another few days.

Hey everyone, I was sleeved on the 20th, and am now home. I have a moderate amount of pain, which is well managed by my prescription of liquid hydrocodone. It's a miracle- I wale up feeling like crap, and five minutes later feel like a million bucks! A little bit of pain meds goes a long way with helping get the gas out. Also, gas-x strips really help. I was able to go home after one night in the hospital, which I was more than okay with. It's much better being at home. I thought I wanted to be in the hospital as long as possible, but I got really tired of having to stay on top of people squirting things directly into my blood, and poking me with sharp objects at all times of night.

Good luck to everyone, both waiting and recovering!

So i have done all my preop stuff. Registered at hospital, did my final preop class where we just went over what will happen at the hospital and what all will be done to me. Not excited about the 2:00 surgery time considering i cant eat or drink after midnight. Not worried so much about food as being dry. There are 4 of us that day. 2 sleeves 2 bands. I must be last on the list. The other sleeve in my class was scared to death! I gave her this website, i hope she joins this or some group because she didnt have much support at home. Pretty excited!! Glad Christmas is coming to keep me occupied or i would be bouncing off the walls.

Happy Holidays to all the December Sleevers!

oh my gallbladder is full of gall stones and i had no idea!! He is going to remove it if the rest of my surgery goes smooth.

Hello everyone, I am new to the December sleevers. :-) It took me 11 months to get approved, using my last and final appeal. I was approved as of the 16th and my fabulous Dr,Fariba Dayhim has graciously given me a quick date because of my insurance circumstances. I am scheduled for December 28th. It was exciting to be approved, yet somewhat overwhelming to prepare in such a short period of time and during the holidays. I have been around "Christmas Goodies" for the last 5 days of my liquid diet and I still have to get through Christmas day. I had been doing Atkiins shakes for lunch and Breakfast most of the time and it never bothered me, but there is something different about it when you haven't had a hearty dinner. I am determined enough to know that I am making the right decision for me and suffering through the next five days will change my life for the better and forever.

I see many of you are already sleeved, but are there suggestions to getting me through Christmas day and maybe making my meal a little more exciting? I am already sick of creamed Soups. In fact they are great for cooking, but not as a meal. Any suggestion would be helpful. Merry Christmas everyone..

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
