11 weeks, depression, hope?

Recommended Posts

I need some encouragement from people who are further out than I am. I saw my surgeon Friday for my 10 week follow up. He told me I was a little behind the curve because I had a kidney stone early on and also a bout with plantar fasciitis that is still going on. I am on week two of prednisone steroid therapy. He said that I was nearing the end of my honeymoon phase as I am almost three months out from surgery. I asked him my chances of reaching my goal of loosing 100 pounds. He told me that I could do it but it would be difficult because I was behind a little bit and the steroids will be working against me. I focused on the negative and have been depressed about it ever since.

I want to be as successful as the next guy. I didnt want to hear that I am going to have a harder time of it or that I might not be able to loose all the weight. I want to hit my goal by 6 to 9 months out. I want to know from others who are further out than me, did you make your goal of 100% weight loss or very nearly and if you did special things to get there. I know the basic rules, Protein first and low carbs etc. but did you have to become a marathon runner to did you just walk a few miles a day, weight train, live in the gym or what did it take to make this dream come true???

I don't want to bash you doctor, but please do not let him have that control over your emotions and your journey to a new and better you. This is different for all of us. I am 6 months out and I read posts here from people who have lost a 100 lbs in that time. I have lost 60. But when I look at their tickers, some of them started with way more to lose than I do. You didn't know you were going to have to be on steroids. So what!! It's a bump in the road of the rest of your life, not a destiny to lose the battle. DO NOT listen to negative talk!! Put your fingers in your ears, say "lalalalala" and move on down the pike. Kathe

Hey, I am only 4 weeks out tomorrow and have lost 31 pounds. It has slowed to 2-3 per week, I think we have such high hopes that the weight is going to fall off of us with no effort. I have just started walking about 2 miles every other day, I am still off another week and trying to incorporate exercise, but I am not an exercise lover. But I know I need to do something for the rest of my life to maintain this. I already feel better which gives me incentive and I eat a fraction of what I was eating, so overall we are going in a great direction. I have to remember it is not a race and my body and metabolism are different from everyone else. It didn't take me 6-9 months to put on the weight and it will probably take longer to get it all off. Just keep at it and keep a positive attitude. You already must look and feel better, we all just want everything yesterday! Hang in there, your not alone.

P.S. I got home from the hospital and my son came running out, he is 12, to hug me, he thought I would come home skinny. Ha. If only that were the case!!! Hang in there!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
