Introduction - Hi everyone! I'm 1 year post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am a 43 year old mom who is 1 year and 1 month post op. I weighed 300 lbs. when I began my journey a little over a year ago. I lost 80 lbs. pretty quickly, but have been completely stalled for about 3-4 months. I'm trying not to be too hard on myself, but I feel hungry all the time (even though I am not supposed to!) and am worried that my chance for "real" weight loss is over. I am still 225 lbs and have been for 3-4 months. I was really hoping to be at least under 200 lbs. by now :( I know I could be doing better, but sometimes I just feel defeated. I'm glad I found this site! My dr. doesn't do many sleeves, he is mostly gastric bypass. I have no one to talk to at his patient support group - which is all about bypass issues and concerns, and often both he and the nutritionist forget that I even had the sleeve and talk to me like a bypass patient. The surgeries are very different and we have different issues, as you all know!

Welcome Violet! This is a great place for support and ideas. Use the search function, and read read read! Im sure you have a lot to contribute to us all as well... congrats on your 80 pound loss! Thats fantastic! As far as stalls, most of us have had more than one, I have been losing very slowly for the last two months (I am at 8 months). Just keep up the good work, perhaps switch it up a little, add more Protein, more Water or exercise... depending on your calorie intake, eat less or more a day or two to shake the body up a bit. I find cucumbers and watermelon help me to lose water weight. Cheers!

Hi SV, I'm glad you've come to this site for support. So have you gotten back to basics: counting carbs, Water and changing up the exercise routine? I track myself on myfitnesspal.com. There are a bunch of people from this site that are also on myfitnesspal and we are all friends and share our food diaries. It's another good place for support. My username on that site is adriq (look for the posting on this site for a bunch more usernames to friend) Please join us there, and also look for some veterans on this site that might be able to give you more advice. Oh, and by the way, 80 lbs is a great accomplishment...dont forget that!! :)

Hi Violet and welcome to VST. CONGRATULATIONS on losing so much weight! 80 pounds is such an accomplishment and should be celebrated. Good for you!!!! I've read from several others on this site about stalls. Some last for a few days while others seem to last much longer. Please be encouraged. The scale will start moving again. You've been given some great advice about switching a few things around (diet, exercise, adding more Protein, etc.). I think you'll be fine.

Chin up!

Niki

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
