What to expect??? I'm getting sleeved at 8 in the morning!

Recommended Posts

The day has finally arrived! I am geting sleeved at 8 in the morning! I have to be there at 6:30 for pre-op! I have had 2 bottles of mag citrate today, which was AWFUL! I have been on Clear Liquids all day( thank God my Dr didnt require this of me for 2 weeks, I'd of died!) So, I just want to know what to expect when I wake up from surgery and the few days following. I'm a nurse, so I know about the surgical and recovery part...but how will I feel, what will help me any do's and dont's? Does anyone have any tips on getting in the required amount of Water and Protein? That is my major concern! Thanks in advance for your help!!!rolleyes.gif

well first of all congradulations. You will wake up and get ice chips of course. when they tell you to start drinking drink small sips. Drink as much as you can. the most important part of healing is walking..walk walk walk. when you can get in your Water usually within a week or so start working on your Protein. The most important thing is the water for the first week or two

Expect to be tired. I mean exhausted tired for the first two to three weeks post-op. Use every opportunity you can to nap and rebuild your energy. When you aren't napping, plan to be sipping constantly on either Water or Protein Drinks. That's the best way to make sure you get in the required Protein and water. Also, expect a bit of an emotional roller coaster. Embrace it and ride it out. Expect a "What the Hell have I done" Day. Mine was day five. I thought I had seriously screwed up and mourned the fact that there was no going back. Of course, today I am thrilled with my decision- but that day I was sure I had screwed up royally. Finally, expect to be dissappointed with weight loss in the first month. Despite learning everything we can it seems to never fail that everyone is upset with the three week stall and his/her weight loss. Lean on this forum when those days come- it helped me tremendously.

Good Luck! :)

Amanda

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
