How long post surgery do I have to put martial arts on the shelf? I was thinking 4 weeks but will I need more? I think the rigors of the classes can only help in stripping fat off my frame. As noted previously, I practice Krav Maga (Israeli combat martial art) and the training is somewhat brutal. Will my stitches heal in 4 weeks to be taking direct shots to the gut? We do full-contact sparring. If I can't do my KM what else could I do? Walking along really doesn't get the job done.

I was told six weeks for working out but don't know about martial arts. Sounds pretty strenuous and potentially harmful for only four weeks out from major surgery. See what others say about that and more alternatives than walking. Bike riding? Swimming?

Great question! I was looking for this exact answer on this thread. I too practice Krav Maga and the workout can get pretty intense those gut shots can floor you.

I do Jeet Kun Do (Bruce Lee's style of Martial Arts) and my doc gave me the clearance at one month post op, I did however wait until 6 weeks just to be safe.

:) I always wanted to try out Krav Maga.

Raine, it's awesome IMHO. I won't compare it to any other art. But the level of street preparedness is off the charts. Now while they preach that you should always avoid going to the ground (because on the ground = dead) my studio does teach ground fighting skills. Find a center in your area and have a look-see. It is an exceptional discipline.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
