eavy Periods after surgery? Anyone experience this?

Recommended Posts

Hello All. I am 8 weeks out from my surgery and down 30 pounds. I hit a stall my third week. I am doing everything by the book, food, Water, Iron, protien....Problem is, I started to bloat at week 4, and they said the surgeon said this is normal, especially with the higher temps. I increased the water from 64 oz. to 80-100 oz., and did see abit of difference in water retention, but the swelling is still there. Mostly in my calves and top of my feet.

Here's the other thing, and pardon me for being graphic and giving TMI, but I have had my period since June 17th. My surgery was on May 31st. I am 47 years old, (PRE-SURGERY WEIGHT:379)and my periods were like clockwork before the surgery. Maybe Menopause? I can't seem to get an answer. I went to my regular doctor for the swelloing and she is afraid to give me anything for it (Lasix) because she does not want to knock my system out of whack. This last week, my period has been so heavy, it's a wonder I am not passing out. But I feel fine.Already had the pap and all that pre-surgery, so I am not worried there.

Has anyone, my age or any age, had this problem post surgery? I just read that fat has lots of hormones, and when I dropped 30lbs., my estrogen went nuts. Help!!!!!!!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Also, has anyone else hit a 5 week stall? I am about to go crazy. Eaing like a bird and not losing weight.

Thanks all.

My hormones went nuts after my sleeve from all the stored estrogen dumping into my bloodstream - but I was "fixed" 20 years ago, so didn't have a period to worry with. Is your OB/GYN familar with WLS patients? You might give his/her nursde a call and get an opinion.

I'm post menopause. March 2010 was my last period. But a few days after surgery I started spotting. Then it got to where it was a light period. It just stoped a few days ago. And I"m 3 weeks out. I asked my doc about it last week when I went in for my check up and they said that for a 2 month period after surgery it is common. If it continues after 2 months to see my GYN. The surgery does throw our bodies and hormones for a loop. Never thought about losing the weight causing it.

Good luck, hopfully it will stop soon.

Oh and I"m only 46 yrs old.

Mine have always been normal, like clockwork prior to surgery. I started about 5 days after surgery. It was extremely heavy for about 3 days and then leveled out. Instead of my normal 6-7 day, it was 8. Then the following month I started a couple days early, same scenario. Really, extemely heavy first 4days then tappered off to normal then light; but SURPRISE IT KEPT GOING AND GOING. I went for 16 or 17 days. I thought I would loose my mind. I am between doctors due loosing my insurance/Kaiser (took a year off to get healthy and have surgery). I am 47 and like you I don't know if this is menopause or what. It's almost that time again......UGGGHHHH. If it happens again I will be seeing a doctor. This is definitely something I cannot live with!!!! Please let me know how it goes for you. Good luck!!

I have the same type of question and this is my own humble opinion. I recieved 2 lovenox shots in the hospital...to prevent clots. It's a blood thinner. I'm on depo shots and have not had a cycle for years and started up 2 days after surgery...UGHHHH what a pain. but this is my reasoning..the blood thinners. The wed site i went to said a side effect of it is>>>"<LI itxtHarvested="0" itxtNodeId="310">increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding"

so if you got a blood thinner..maybe that is why.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
