I am 5 days post op and always thirsty. The kind where your mouth is kinda sticky. I've sipped on Water, gatorade, crystal light, juice. Any suggestions on how to quench my sticky mouth without going over my 4oz limit?

Popsicles and ice chips may help. I was also thirsty...but it gets better when you add food. Chapstick for the lips...

It's from not enough Fluid and your anesthesia. I felt thirsty for about a week after surgery it will pass. Make sure you ask about that 4 oz limit....you NEED to be hydrated it super super important. Make sure you get your 2 litres a day otherwise you will feel terrible.

The 4oz limit comes from the instructions sent home with me when I left the hospital...

"Drink no more than half a cup at a time, take small sips. Drink only what you can, do not force feed, and do not take more than half a cup."

I'm a bit confused at the moment. I watched my leak test, the stuff goes in & out without stopping in the tummy, so why is there a limit to how much I can drink at once? Jello I can understand, I imagine it stays around for a bit, but not liquid. If I'm understanding the above statement wrong please let me know!!

i thought the same thing yesterday ... i saw it run thorugh on the leak test ... so i paid no attention yesterday and sort of sipped when i wanted too ... and really over did it ... SERIOUSLY!!!! I had all my Protein ( 50 g) and Water (64 oz) intake in ( all before dinner @ 5 pm and then sipped on half a bottle propel Water as i waited for my egg drop Soup to be delivered) and around dinner time yesterday when the egg drop Soup came I strained it added water and proceeded to sip away ... before i knew it i was MISERABLE... and when i looked down my poor tummy was hard and swollen twice it's normal size .... i was doubled over in pain ... i was in so much pain ( ... i really wanted to go to the emergercy room ...) liquids can flow fast and i guess i must have had to much at one time and it was to much for my body to absorb easily... learn from my mistake ... i certainly have .... this morning i'm fine... and i'll be will be writing down everything i drink and not exceeding my 2 oz max every 15 minutes per my dr ....

full of liquids is no fun ( I couldn't even sleep i was so scared ... i thought i had done serious damage since only 5 days post op... just cause it pass the tummy quickly doesn't mean it absorbed quickly... Learned it the hard way.....:(

Biotene will save you!!

You should keep up with your liquids, but to ease the dry feeling you can swish with biotene mouthwash. It absolutely SAVED me during my hospital stay and for the couple of weeks I was on liquids. You probably aren't salivating because you are not chewing anything.

Go get some biotene and you will be so relieved.

Take care--

Lara

thanks for the experience cutie pie!! i was so afraid of doing the same thing that i may have been doing the exact opposite and not taking in enough. i did some math today and figured that if i need 64oz per day and i'm awake for roughly 14 hours each day than i need to take in 5 oz every hour, which comes out to an ounce every 12 minutes. that really helped me to understand how much to take in without hurting myself.

i'm still gonna eat a popsicle today though!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
