I don't know if my sleeve is defective or what? I hear about people having such a difficult time even drinking Water, but from day one I have had no problem at all. Then, people say it's difficult to even eat half a cup of Soup, but I have NO problem. Now, I'm not begging for a problem here but i'm wondering if I my sleeve does not work properly. Also it does not take me an hour or even half an hour to eat half a cup of soup or half a cup of milk....AND I'm noticing i"m not losing as fast as others. I'm at 2 weeks out and have only lost 12 pounds and am already in my first stall. What is up! Am I paranoid or should I call my surgeon?

Ok, this really means you are lucky. Your body did not react with the swelling most of get from surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah YOU!

You will feel restriction when you get to solids, believe me! chicken is like the worst. 3 bites and you are done! liquids equal slider foods, slide right through the sleeve.

You did not say what you started at? How old you are, these are all factors. Additionally a lot of us gain weight at the hospital due all IV fluids and then your body perceives the trauma and does not want to let go of things just in case this is a full fledged attack and thinks it just may need to fluids and fat for the fight!

I only lost 14 pounds at my 2 weeks check up and I was depressed. The doc said because was older (39+8) and because I was a lower start weight and I had taken off 50 on my own my body was going to fight me. Now it has come off oh yeah, but it has been more like loose 3 gain 2 loose 4 gain 2 with many many 6 weeks week stalls! Most of us do not see great drops unless we start really high off on the scale. But the one thing all of us share is that once you loose a good bit it becomes a fight to take it off, the body fights us all the way (weigh). Be pateint and kind to yourself. Apply your new eating choices till they become habit and you will not fail!

Just told some one else this on another post but here is goes again,

Breath in, Breath out, Move on. The time is always now. Don't sweat the small stuff, you are doing just fine my friend!

I was like that too, just means you are having a easy recovery. You will feel more restriction when you get to more dense Protein. Don't freak over the stall either, some peoples 3 wk stall starts a little earlier. Mine lasted over a month too, which I hated but it's all part of the process. Try your best to stay hydrated! Congrats!!

:)

You are healing well but don't take the ease of eating and drinking to over indulging. Be sure to measure your food and eat slowly. Pay attention to how long you stay full for. If its a while...your sleeve is working fine :) Remember...just because you CAN eat more, doesn't mean you SHOULD. You're doing great!

I am the same way...no problems with any food or liquid that I've introduced yet at week 4. Of course, I'm also experiencing an 8 day stall... To be honest, I've read the same comments and had your exact thought! lol

Myrori,

I like that A LOT!!!

Italianlady,

I was exactly the same with drinking... I could, with ease, drink plenty of Water and all other fluids. It does change with solid food.

I have to be honest, I enjoyed the fact that I could drink well because it meant that I was healing well and staying hydrated... just keep doing what you are doing!

Everyone loses differently. If you were "on the lighter side" before surgery, then you won't lose as fast as those who are on the "heavier side". Don't compare yourself to others when it comes to weight loss.

I also have not had any problems eating the appropriate amounts of liquids - they go down very easy. However, more solid things that are pureed, and now soft foods (that I started today) do not go down as easily and it's harder to eat the appropriate portion because of the restriction.

I could drink almost normally by the end of the first week, and didn't really have any probs with the Soups the hospital gave me (was in the hospital for a week -- standard in Europe!). I was terrified that my sleeve was "too big." As soon as I started eating anything that wasn't liquid, I learned that YEP, my stomach is TINY.

You will learn the same: liquids may be easy, but solid food? Not so much. Don't worry.

Like others have said, it's surely a combo of you having less swelling in your actual surgery site AND plenty of liquid pumped into you. Your body's confused as hell as to what just happened so don't worry that you've "only" lost 12lbs. That might even help make your stalls less bad. (I lost 25 lbs in 2.5 weeks… then stalled for 6. Yup. Would you prefer that?)

And just remember also that everyone's sleeve is a different size. If you are tall, or your stomach is just natually LONGER, then you may have a bigger stomach post-op than someone else. I agree with others - trying to eat chicken in a few weeks will be the true test. When I got to mushies, I couldn't eat but a few bites of eggs while the same size serving of refried black Beans went in fine.

Don't get discouraged. The weight WILL come off! Your body just has to adjust to this new way of eating. Best of luck!

I wondered exactly the same thing. I am so glad that I watched the computer screen as I took the leak test. I think everyone should check out the size of their stomach that way. I had a very easy recovery and had absolutely no complications. Now at just 8 weeks out I can eat anything I want. All of the "cautions" they gave us at the pre-op have not caused me any problems at all. This sounds crazy but I seem to lose more weight when I eat a little more than when I don't eat much. Obviously, I certainly don't eat what I used to eat but I am satisfied with much less.

What everyone said above. :) I healed well and fast after my initial complications in the hospital. I had a stall that lasted forever too. You will feel the restriction like everyone says once you can eat actual food.< /p>

Thanks so much everyone. I really appreciate the support. I notice that the sugar free fat free ice creams and mashed potato slip right down, but when I tried to eat eggplant or lentils it's not so easy. I really love my instant mashed potatos and fat free cheddar cheese! I get to start eating meat next week so we will see.....I hope my tummy is nice and small and I didnt even think to look at it during the leak test...I think that would have helped me to put things into perspective....thanks for everything everyone!

On another note I wouldn't go for fat free, your body needs the fat but the mashpotatoes gotta go and so do icecreams fatfree or not!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
