im seriously regretting this

Recommended Posts

This will be my 3rd night in the hospital and should've only stayed 1 night. I can't keep anything down cause I have so much swelling and it just comes up like foam. This is by far the worst thing I've ever done.

I'm pre-op so I can't sympathize with you, but I know from my reading that the first three days can be a real pain in the butt.

Hang in there. I'm sure it will get better.

Hugs.

Yes you are miserable now but it will get better. Will they let you try different temperatures of Fluid? The temperature seems to make a difference to some people.

Yikes!!! So sorry to hear about it. Does the doctor say what they think might be causing the trouble? The first few days are seriously rough - but I hope you start to feel better. Most people have some sort of regret off and on during the first 2 weeks becuase they are so challenging. Keep focused on getting better - that's your full time job right now. Also, push the surgeon to answer your questions - you are your best advocate!!!!

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hang in there! Seriously- I too had to stay in the hospital extra time because I could not get anything down.

My first six days were h-e-double hockey sticks. I could not drink without pain and could not imagine how my life was going to be.

On my fifth day it became easier to drink and the clouds parted and the sun came out. Gradually, making sure to get Protein and Water, I moved forward and now I can eat anything (just in tiny portions!) and I have lost 53 pounds.

Remember you did this to save your life and don't pressure yourself to be where you are not. Hugs to you!

I'm so sorry. It will get better....I promise!! I was in the hospital every week since my surgery and I said those same words. When you are in the thick of it its normal to feel that way. I'll keep you in my prayers!

I felt the same way for the first week or so. Like everyone else has said, it WILL get better. Those first few days I liked either ice or lukewarm broth, but hated room temperature stuff. I had quite a bit of nausea as well-but it faded as time went on.... I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as well!! (((Hugs)))

I had the same problem and ended up staying for 4 days. When you drink take like a quarter of the lil cup they give you. I had to do that every 30 mins instead of the full cup every 15 mins. After I started cutting back the Fluid myself I stopped throwing up

I am thinking we had our surgery the same day.. July 20th.

I am not regretting it but I sure don't feel good at all. My Daughter asked me how I feel today and I said "honky Dorrie" or whatever that saying is. After about 5 minutes of talking to her I said I really feel really, really bad. I feel like I have a huge helium balloon attached to my overly inflated stomach and that there is a baby in there kicking (which I am assuming is the gas). I had two Gas-X strips earlier but I don't feel like that made a difference.

So far I have walked 25 minutes (in 5 minute increments) I am doing this indoors as it is over 100 outside. I feel like I have sipped all day but I have only gotten down about 24 ounces of Water. I am working very hard on the Water but it is making me feel a little queazy.

I have not taken any pain meds today I am going to do that shortly and then another dose before I go to bed which will be late.

I hope we are both feeling better soon as everyone says we will.

Dee Dee,

Are they giving you anything to release the gas? I got something intraveniously...wish I knew what it was... I'm saying a prayer for you; I feel so bad that you are having such a hard time of it. On the bright side, 24 oz is pretty dang good. How about some ice chips that just melt in your mouth, how would that feel? It MAY help reduce the swelling (really I have no idea but my mom instinct is to get ice on it lol...forgive my lame attempt at levity).

Feel better soon!

Susan

I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. It is normal to think the way you are when you are at this stage. Like the others said, it will get better. I hope you get feeling better soon.

Hang in there! You'll get through this and when you do, you will be so happy for doing it. The first week for me was the worst, especially with the gas and bloating. Week two, wasn't as bad but was still bad. Week three was a lot better but still not great. Week four, almost back to normal with a few aches.

I think between feeling sick, lack of energy, and lack of food and Water intake, it makes you feel hopeless sometimes. I asked my husband several times through the first couple of weeks if I would ever get better. I would be sobbing at the same time. It does get better! You'll be okay! It just takes time. It's a long process but it will come and go before you know it.

Hang in there!! I'm 3 wks post-op & still sometimes question myself but we've all came so far & you'll see that in the end all of this will be worth it...yes it's rough & yes each day gets easier & yes even as things get easier you may still have a rough day but toughen up & say you can & you will overcome this obstacle because you will!! Congrats & take care!!

Oh, I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. I was sleeved on Tues. and came home yesterday. I have had some really bad times too. I am really struggling with being able to drink enough. I hope they figure out what is going on and can take care of it, so you can get home. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
