hi Donna D. I will let the more experienced bandster answer your questions because I have never had a fill. As I understand it though, the defill is used if a) you are too restricted or :) you swallow something and it gets stuck and you have to have a defill to let the boogie go thru. Correct me if I am wrong bandsters. Doddie

becca77 - you know it :)

Donna - yes... first defill or issue really, so far. Everything WAS smooth... but as you see, little problems can happen any time. It was avoidable. Just be more smart than me! (i assume if you read back, you know about being sick, then nauseous, and then puking) Being sick caused the puking, not the band... me puking caused the problem with the band (too tight) Hopefully I'm making sense. Just don't want you to worry. Learn all you can from us, and hopefully do even better with what you get out of it! :D

Good luck!

Hi Argon

I am not banded yet but I thought most problems would happen near the beginning when we need to learn how to chew and eat small amounts.

Issues can happen anytime.....for whatever reason. Sometimes it may have been avoidable (ie. chew chew chew); other times....there is really no rhyme or reason. Look at Susie (banded for 5 yrs) and she recently had a defill.

A banded friend of mine was last filled in Aug 06. Everything was fine; she needed no fills, she had the right restriction and then all of a sudden (seemingly) in Feb (almost 6 months since her last fill) she was so tight she couldn't even sip water....she was painfully tight. She tried to deal with it for a few days; confused as to what was happening. Then, she went to the band doc...they looked under fluro and nothing was wrong...she was just extremely tight all of a sudden (????? - they didn't know why). So, she had a small defill and all was fine.

All that to say....pretty much anything can happen anytime. BUT, that is not to say that it is a bad thing or that you should reconsider your band decision; it's just part of the banded life and something you should be aware of and accept going into it. Really, it's a small price to pay.

But her experience did teach me to expect the unexpected anytime.

Mandi congrats on being in the 170's and for the inches off. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I would probably pay more attention to the measurements that you have made of yourself rather than theirs.

On another note you said that you go to a gym. I am thinking of joining a gym near me but I am worried that I will go and then stop and I will have wasted my money. ANyway... I was wondering how often you go to the gym and what it is that you do there. Do you do weights, cradio or swim? And did you get a personal trainer or something or did you just sort of create your own system? Full of questions I know. :P

Thank you guys! It's exciting... geesh... the 1-anythings are crazy... but SEVENTY'S?! I just blew my own mind! haha I shouldn't push it... I'm not THAT far out of the 180's to be getting all cocky. I will definitely stay off the scale as long as possible now. I don't want to see the inevitable fluctuation upwards.

Dame - I answered you in your other thread. :welldoneclap:

Goldie - you should start a new thread and ask this 'out there', cause I'm sure lots of people are sick of listening to me, so don't read this at all! haha But I am 99.9% sure there are no band surgeons in Ottawa. You'd likely have to go to Toronto. Is that so bad though? I went from SK to Toronto... you're lucky!

Wow - you look amazing. Can you believe the change in you? I hope you are very proud of yourself because I don't think there is anyone on this board that hasn't visualized themselves smaller. Congratulations again, not just for Argon but for all of you that are or have made yourselves heathly, and happy. I know the biggest thrill really is inside you but it looks great on the outside too!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
