port discomfort

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I know this thread has probably been posted a million and one times but I never really looked at them since I wasnt experiencing it.

I was banded on May 8th, and initially I had some port discomfort, but it all resolved w/in 2 weeks. For the last week and a half, i have been experiencing some discomfort/pain around my port and can even feel it when i bend over. It's not that bad, just sore enough to take notice. I had my first fill 4 wks ago, and am do again in 2 wks, and the pain varies w/ time, there's no direct correlation to when i have it. any suggestions to what i can do??? :scared: Thanks

I also have this pain. I have asked my doctor about it and he has said that some people experience more discomfort around the port area than others. I can also feel mine when I bend over and so forth. I can tell when I sit for long periods of time that I get more port pain depending on how I sit because of the fact that I can feel the port. I have no advice to offer though. Sorry. I look forward to seeing if anyone else is experiencing this.

I was banded on March 7th and had the on again/off again port pain for almost 4 months - yep, felt it more if I bent over or sat for too long. It's been a few weeks now since I felt any port pain but now I'm getting a very mild pulling sensation on the port side but more toward the back. Weird. It doesn't hurt but it makes me a bit nervous. I get the feeling that this too shall pass.

Any tingling or light stinging in the port area? I had that too for a couple of months post banding. It passed.

Your port area will probably be uncomfortable for at least 5 full weeks. Then you are able to feel the food going through your intestines because you will begin to get a pooch coming out of your stomach all depending where your port is. Mine used to come out when the food was passing through me. Now I have lost all my weight and the port is really sticking out. It is uncomfortable when I have my clothes on because it is right where my waistband is. I hopefully will be getting it replaced with a low profile one. They say it is flat and it won't get in the way. I am still going to ask while he is in ther to put it lower or higher.

Don't worry, you are going through what everyone really goes through.

Josephine....

How did you lose all your weight with no fills?

I'm so totally confused by everything now -

pain or no pain

pb's or no pb's

fills or no fills?

And here I am, banded on June 20th, and pushing myself around today,

eating soft stuff just to see if I feel anything - and l don't think I've lost

more than 10 pounds.

I'm feeling nutty tonite for sure.

Will power and determination ! I made this a lifestyle change and started eating healthy. I averaged between 10 - 15lbs loss a month. I am not saying that is good but I am glad that part is over with. I will now have more of a struggle to maintain my weight.

You will do fine and it is okay to go slow. I am sure it is better off.

Don't worry. you will be fine. I never had any problems at all through my weight loss journey. It seems most of the people have problems once they start having fills.

Thanks for all of the help, I knew it wasnt anything worrysome but I was just curious about it. I did experience some slight burning/tingling for the 1st wk after my fill, but it went away.

"It seems most of the people have problems once they start having fills."

I actually got better after my 1st fill, before that I had several PB'ing episodes and other symptoms which ?'ed my decision for the sx, but the only thing I have had since was the discomfort, but I know that everyone is different.

again thanks for all the support, im going to be in my surgeons office for my f/u psych appt on tues, and ill just check in w/ him or his RN and see what they say.

I have always had tenderness in my port area and was told that this is common and it can last up to a year or more. Certain things I do irritate it, like getting a fill because they have to mess with it and hold it/find it. Also things that involve stretching my abdomen bother it. Remember it is sutured to your abdominal wall and is a firiegn object in your body, I think it is only natural untill you heal completely and your body is useto the strain of it being there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
