This sure isn't a lively forum over here in the July 2011 board! Let's get this party poppin'! We are about to have surgery, people! Awesome, exciting, life-changing surgery! Wooooo wooooooo!!!!! :)

Actually, there have been a few posts over here and I guess there isn't too terribly much to talk about that hasn't already been covered on the other topics, but just thought I'd say hi and good luck to all my July people! Mine is on the 18th and it's just starting to sink in that is 3 weeks away! Wow! When is your surgery? And how do you feel about it? Excited? Nervous? Hesitant?

:D

Mine is July 11th. And I can't wait. I'm so excited. I start preop diet on Monday. I guess part of the reason I'm so excited is that I have already lost almost 20 lbs. Just on my pre preop diet. . Let's get this liquid thing going so I can see how much I can lose before surgery.

I guess this is kind of a lame group and I am the lamest. My VSG is less than a week away (July 1) and all I can do is read and re-read informative posts so I can get my mind prepared. Maybe after surgery I'll have more to contribute or complain about. Right now, I'm just so ready to get this show on the road! My 1 week liquid diet officially started yesterday. I actually started it on Monday, 4 days early. I was so eager to move things along. It's really not that bad but that's only beacause I know there's an end in sight. Of course, I did have to squeeze in a buffet Last Supper on Thursday. I came away from that kind of feeling cheap and dirty and disgusted. I'm glad I will never be able to stuff myself like a Thanksgiving turkey and waddle out of Golden Corral again. 4 out of 5 of my fellow diners really needed to look into WLS and put Golden Corral out of business.

This time next week I'll be sleeved. The fridge, freezer, and pantry are stocked with every allowable clear liquid I could get my hands on. This girl is READY.

How's everyone else doing with prep?

I am scheduled for the 19th. I am excited. My family is so busy between now and then which really helps to keep my mind off of things. I have to start my liquid diet on the 11th.

I see my surgeon one last time on the 1st and have my pre-op testing that day too.

Good luck everyone and I'll be here if anyone needs support and I'll be watching to see how everyone ahead of me is doing.

Congrats on being so close!! Definitely keep us updated on how everything goes. :) I am so excited and nervous for you. I feel like I'm doing the same thing as you (even though I'm not as close) and just reading and re-reading how everyone else coped with the recovery process, what people eat, drink, how they felt, what they were thinking. lol. I feel like I've read so much, there can't possibly be any surprises. It's good for us to feel that way, though. It makes us feel more in control.

Well, you've got this! I'll be thinking of you on the 1st. Post on here when you're feeling up for it!

I am getting my sleeve July 27th in Mexico. I am starting my pre-op diet July 4. So far I have been having food funerals. I know there are differing points of view on this. Some say it is ok and some get hostile when some one admits to it. I have actually been eating things that I normally never buy.

I am a dt mtn dew addict and I think that will be the hardest thing for me to give up. When I decided on the sleeve then found out I would have to give it up....I actually hesitated. Then the good Lord put the thought into my mind, I could give up something that really is not beneficial or I could get this weight off permanently....then I thought how totally rediculous!!

So here I am and starting Monday I am one a day until the 4th and I will be weaned off.

So Good Luck to all the July 2011 losers!!! Cheers to a new beginning!

They must put crack in that Diet Mtn Dew! I was hooked on it for years. I've met quite a few other DMD junkies, too. About a year ago, when I got up to a 4 a day habit, I decided it had to stop and just went cold turkey. It does seem ridiculous to be a slave to a beverage-no matter how tasty and refreshing. I still have to have some kind of caffeine every a.m., like half a cup of coffee, or I get a headache that can't be killed with anything but caffeine. Still trying to kick that.

If we can get that DMD monkey off our backs we ought to be able to give up food too.

Best wishes on breaking your addiction as well as on your surgery.

Yep I am about 4 a day...I catch it on sale I might 10- 6 packs of the 24 oz bottles. That is about all that is in my pantry. My boss knows about my pending surgery and he is well aware of my DMD addiction, I told him he was going to have Hell to pay when I give up my drug of choice. He just laughed (his office is across from mine) said he would shut his door. Glad to hear that some else kicked the DMD addiction.

Small sacrifice to be thin. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.

I'm July 29th with Dr. Kelly in Mexico. We've been pretty busy around here lately so it's been easy to keep my mind off the surgery. But, being here definitely makes me think about it. I'm nervous for sure, and sometimes a bit sick to my stomach about it. I've never had any kind of surgery before, so this is all new to me.

I gave up my Diet Coke around May 11 - cold turkey. It's not quite the same as DMD as it doesn't have as much caffeine, but I knew that I would need to do it before surgery because I wouldn't be able to afterwards (it's a head thing). So far, so good.

I've been very busy, but I have also just been reading and reading the forums as well as some other sites that I have come across. Tomorrow is pre-op teaching and I get the 2 week diet that I will start on Tuesday. I am so ready to get it started though.

It's nice to see some more chitter chatter in here! I was getting bummed that we wouldn't even have a July group! It's so important to have support! Two weeks tomorrow and I will be a sleeved mama! Start my 2 week pre op diet tomorrow which is 3 Protein Shakes a day and one small healthy meal. My biggest anxiety is being away from my 10 month old son and not being able to pick him up after surgery. My Doc said no lifting for 4 days, which will be tough, but I know worth it! I'm just sooo ready to get back my healthy way of life I had with the band. Let's keep the support going, gang :)

I am penciled in for the 27th. That is too much time for me to think! I keep thinking about all the what ifs.... It would be easier to get it done without time to think. Really I want it done yesterday...LOL :P

I have had some funerals (Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen tonight). I start my 2 week diet tomorrow. I'm on a 3 shakes and one meal a day plan too. I'm getting pretty excited about getting this going, especially since I have been able to lose almost 20 lbs before the pre-op diet. :whoo: :woot:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
