First off, i hope this post doesnt scare anyone. I was just hoping for some advice. I am currently on the hospital bed, and i got sleeved yesterday. I just wanted to know if the pressure on my chest is normal? ive also been throwing up and gagging (air because ive had nothing to eat or drink for the past two days). I just wanted to know if anyone else went through this and for how long. ive already been through the frustrated cry of "omg, whyd i do this to myself" and im hoping itll all be worth it in the end!

I feel that pressure when I drink/eat too much. That is my restriction. But, if you were just sleeved and have not drank or eaten anything yet, I would definatley ask someone while I am still at the hospital!

Did you take any liquid meds? That could do it too.

Keep us posted.

Kelly

If it was laproscopic surgery, then that is probably pain from the insuflation . I had that horrible for about two days, no matter what I took for pain. Walking helps, but mostly I just had to make it through. I also threw up from the anesthesia, even though they gave me all the meds possible to stop it. This lasted around 24 hrs. I always do. I hope yours is easier than this, just know that I know what you are going through . My day four was awesome! It does get better everyday. Sorry your uncomfortable!

Make sure the doctor gives you something for nausea. You'll get dehydrated.

It will be better soon and you will be watching the scale go down. Believe me, it will be worth it in the end.

YES! So very normal. I am sorry and it will go away soon. You are probably feeling the gas that they inflate you with to see your insides. Walk as much as you can. It will suddenly change and you will feel so much better. This happened to the lady that I had surgery right after me on the same day. Hang in there!

I just wanted to say, too, try not to be scared, it will make it harder to breath. Try to take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth and that will help to calm you. I know...easier said than done!

You are NOT alone! I was sleeved just over a week ago. I had a similar pain the day after too. Although I had Water and a little bit of Gelatin. By Day 2, I felt 100% better and by day 4 & 5 I was GREAT....now I'm at day 10, and I just told my doc I don't even feel like I had anything done! Of course the liquid diet is a frequent reminder...but I feel FANTASTIC! Best wishes....it will get progressively better but if the pain persists, talk to your doc for an upper GI to look for leaks.

Thank you so much everyone! I was hysterically crying this morning from the pain. But I've been walking around to the point where the nurses are saying "you again?" Lol. I whined myself off of the pain meds because that was making me gag and vomit so I'm better off with out it. Seriously, thank you for all of your advice. It's so comforting knowing that I can come here and get such great advice especially when I'm feeling extra shitty and confused. I'm eating some sugerfree Kosher Gelatin now and I'm feeling better. Its so weird eating tiny TINY bites, but I have to! Again, thanks so much everyone!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
