band to sleeve...help please...

Recommended Posts

I have had the band -2 times now- and have had no success. ABsolutely none. So in the beginning stages of looking at sleeve. Have read some about Mexico doctors. Wonderng if anybody has experiences with doctors in Denver or Albuquerque. I don't know if insurance will pay again (they paid for one lapband). Also curious if get it done in Mexico if something happens back here, some complication....will insurance help with it?? Thanks for any help....

I was revised to a sleeve in Jan and ended up readmitted to the hospital 11 days later with a possible leak. I was glad I had the surgery done locally because I ended up very sick- on IV antibiotics for 5 days. I know, even working for an airline, I did not want to fly internationally when I am sick- I did it 3 times with the band. I know I could not afford a last minuet ticket to make sure I could be seen by my surgeon. Driving 15 min at the ER was bad enough- I was glad it was 5 a.m. on a Sat so there was no traffic. Driving an hour plus at least a 2 hour flight with a temp over 101 would not been pretty. I also do not speak any Spanish- so getting a taxi in a Mexican city to go to the doctor office or the hospital would have been fun.

I will admit I have multiple auto-immune diseases so being exposed to "foreign" bugs could have made me sick too. Many of the reasons that I should never have been banded- my doctor knew of my diseases.

I was revised in Mexicali by Dr. Aceves. I talked to my insurance provider before I left to make sure they would be able to handle complications after the fact. They usually outsource their bariatric surgeries and said they would take care of any emergencis I might have. They have also allowed me to do their follow-up bloodwork protocol. You have to talk to your insurance folks and check before-hand.

Please look through the band-to-sleeve- revision discussion topic on the main page, scroll about half way down and you will see it. There are a lot of us revision folks out there.

I am very happy with my revision and would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Aceves. He has a great reputation, staff, and results.

Good luck with you decision,

Lara

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
