Trying to tell my inner voice to shut it!

So after 4 years oF wanting wls, and 2 yrs of active research. I have a date and I am trying to talk myself out of it. All morning I have been reminding myself of all the other things I "should do with this kinda money" feeding myself the "is this the beat use of it" question. Somewhere in there I know it is, I didn't expect to attack myself on this. Lol. Whew. I just need to hang in there and stay focused. Right?

Pasquini.

Well, it's either spend it here in one chunk....Or spend a little bit at a time on the cost of being obese: blood pressure medicine, diabetes medicine, extra visits to doctors, orthtics, etc. It's a pretty good investment if you ask me!

Isn't there a way to KILL that annoying inner voice? :cuss::smash4:

Mine has tred to sabotage me too but I chose to ignore it at some point.

"No, I could never do it on my own, othersiwe I'd already be thin. No, this is not the easy way out. No, this doesn't mean I have a very weak personality". These were my answers to it.

Prepare your answers!

Are you sure you'd save money? What about the money you'll have to spend on your health if you don't take care of youself now? Mmmmh...

I was a self pay, and the hard thing for me was spending that amount of money on myself. I told that little voice to shut up, and that I was worth the investment!!! You are too - :D.

Yes I have had the same arguments with myself. I've been waiting for 7 yrs to have wls. There is always things or other people that we can think of to spend the $ on. I have always put everything and everyone first cuz I felt this was self centered. My thoughts on that has compleltely changed. I want to be here for my family and not have my children lose their mom at an early age to obesity, diabetes, heart attack, or stroke. Besides putting myself last and not taking care of myself is how I ended up obese. It's time to make a change for me and my family and improve my health and our quality of life. My obesity has affected and limited their lives as well as mine cuz we have to plan everything around my limited mobility. I just want us all to be free from my prison.

If you're like a lot of us, this is a voice we've all heard before. It's the voice that tells us THIS time will be different, THIS time we'll finally lose the weight! only to sabotage us halfway through by telling us it's okay to have just one cookie, or it's okay to buy a pizza. We're better now and we can control ourselves.

once the surgery is done, it won't matter what that voice says. You can quit a diet, but you can't quit the sleeve.

Yup, that's the voice, u been in my head? Kinda nice in there huh? ;)

I had the same feelings right before mine. This quote helped me figure out the right thing to do:

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result."

If you are like me, you've already tried dieting for many years. You can lose, but you can't maintain. The surgery is a totally new angle and it works. There are thousands of people proving that on this site every day. I am less than a week post op (had my surgery April 14th in the morning) and I feel great (already down 2 pounds in 4 days). I was super nervous going in, but once I came to in recovery, I was so happy. This feeling of relief and excitement overwhelmed me and I don't question it at all any more. It's my wish you get there too! Don't give up on yourself - your doctors have referred you to this for a reason. Trust your instincts and just keep chanting that mantra! You'll do great.

Thx everyone for the encouragement. Ironic how much our minds sabotage us.

There is a certain comfort in dealing with the devils we know. It's hard to give them up for something unknown, as much as we hate them.

Way to go Pasquini, i am not far behind you and the voices have already started with me. We have to keep our eye on the big picture. Kepp me posted on the pre-op and the whole process.

The inner voice never goes away, I am 10 days out and have lost 19lbs, the outer voices of friends and coworkers saying they did not recognize me squashes that inner voice bigtime. Just think of the money you will save not eating junk, I went out with my wife the other day to a steak restaurant and ordered the french onion soup no bread,no cheese and strained, $4 for lunch as opposed to my normal $20 plus.

My voices started big time yesterday. I am scheduled May 9th and have lost 40 lbs on my own pre-op diet since February. No more than 10 minutes after I was having an indepth conversation with myself, the surgery scheduler called with my surgery time. Thank God. I am sure of my decision but will probably freak out a couple more times in the next 17 days,

Good luck.
