when can I eat a protein bar?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 weeks out from vsg and doing great. I have started on mashed potatoes mixed with some chicken broth to thin them out and it taste delicious! better then butter. I also started eating 1 scrambled egg a day. The rest of the meals are pureed Soups, yogurts and fruit smoothies. Once in a while I'll eat a teaspoon of smooth Peanut Butter. It's been 6 weeks since I've had a solid meal, so I bought a low carb, lowfat, 15g Protein Bar and ate it. It was so good to eat something. Now I only hope I don't have any problems from doing that. When is the right time to eat Protein Bars? I really can't stand the Protein Drinks, has anyone else did this so soon and if so did you have any trouble? Thanks

I would think that 2 weeks is a little early to be eating solid food like a Protein bar.!! My plan doesn't call for solid food of any type until 6 weeks out.

You really need to be careful about advancing too quickly as it can cause leaks and other troubles!

I wasn't even allowed eggs for 5 weeks.... take care, the time will fly by and you will be able to eat almost anything. Just hang in there.

Our plan states at 6 weeks is when you can attempt Protein bars. And they are to be more of the soft nature...not the hard crunchy kind. You probably didn't do any damage (unless you were uncomfortable, vomiting with blood, in pain, etc.) but I think I would wait before doing it again. Remember that the staple line needs time to heal properly.

I like Protein bars also and always looking for a good one low in carbs. I'm 5 months now but at two weeks I was allowed to eat a egg, deli turkey and even wendys chili. Maybe your doctor allows this and at least it would be a change.

It's 2 weeks for me on Monday. I don't like the Protein dinks at all, so I can't wait to eat something with substance. I was thinking about tuna, and may a light fish like talipa next week, as well as my spoonful of Peanut Butter and soft foods. Deli turkey sounds good also, thanks!

The Protein Bar I ate was soooo good. It was more of a soft chocloate cookie with marshmellows. It was low in carbs and fat witheither 13 or 15 grams protein.. but it was yummy protein

Well I ate a couple of the Kellogs Special K chocolate Peanut Butter flavored ones already! So after reading everyone's posts I guess I will wait a while longer before eating them again also, but it was rather chewy and not very hard too. I thought that it was okay also......oops!

:D I know were starving right..

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
