I know that there have been posts about this elsewhere at the forum, but please bear with me!! I had the sleeve on 3/29/11 (2 1/2 weeks ago) and lost 17 lbs. in the first 1 1/2 weeks. My problem is -- now I'm not losing - it's depressing already. I'm eating only what I'm supposed to (I'm on purees still), walking at least 30 minutes a day, getting enough Water, basically everything I'm supposed to be doing. My question for you all is -- IS THIS NORMAL? WHEN WILL I START TO LOSE AGAIN!! I'm paranoid this will end up being yet another "thing" I fail at. Thanks for the info.

I am in the same boat. I lost at first and now nothing. My surgery was 3/28. I have been exercising, and following the diet and the scale does not move!

Totally normal; they actually have a name for it - welcome to the week 3 stall. :) This too shall pass.

Hello All,

I was sleeved on 3/24. I stalled at about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. Now I'm just over 3 weeks and I seem to have started loosing again. I guess you just have to be patient at times. That's what I'm hearing at least.

BTW I'm already down 48 lbs.

Totally normal. You are not doing anything wrong. Hang in there, live your life, follow the directions, and you will lose. Patients is a virtue!

Your body is in shock after surgery and is now trying to heal, give it a chance to do so and keep following your guidelines. You are only 2,5 weeks out and have lost 17 lbs, so Celebrate those lost and be confident that you will loose more once your body has "forgiven" you for putting it through surgery. :-)

I am 5.5 weeks out and I too stalled at 2.5 weeks after loosing 27lbs. through pre-op and that couple of weeks post-op. I then gained almost 10-15 lbs back in the next following weeks. I was terrified of what was happening because I had been following all of the rules. I went to the Dr. 5 days ago, he prescribed a Water pill and guess what??? I've lost 15 lbs in the Water weight that my body was retaining since 2.5 weeks out . And each day I go down a few more lbs. SO, I'm hoping that I will see any real additional weight loss from this "stall" period soon! I have decided that I need to severely alter my high expectations, since there is no guaranteed process for each individual. Just keep on keepin' on and it will all be fine in the long run :)

I don't think there is a normal or not normal for VSG. Everybody varies. I've found that if you just keep doing the right things through the stall...your time will come. I'll have weeks where I don't lose a thing, but when I look back over the months I have consistently lost between 10 to12 pounds each month after the first month (20lbs the first month). Sometimes it's frustrating to see that some people lose 100 pounds in 4 months, but you know what...this is me. Gotta say...I'm QUITE pleased with my 67 pound loss! I've gone from a size 20 pants and 18/20 shirts from Lane Bryant to a size 8 or 10 depending on the fabric pants and medium or large shirts depending on the cut from Old Navy. If you do what you're supposed to do...it will happen. It might not be as quickly (or as slowly) as someone else, but you will be successful! Chin up.

Around the 3rd week, it's normal to start stalling.

It'll get better! hang in there.

The same thing happened to me. I panicked! In fact, I'm stalled-out again at 6 months, but I have lost 70 pounds, so I'm not terribly disappointed. I'm upping my exercise and upping the Protein and hoping for the best! Good luck!!

I actually stalled at 2 weeks and a couple of days- and since I lost a pound yesterday at 3 weeks one day I hope my stall is broken! Luckily I have everyone here talking about stalls so I knew to just keep on keeping on!

It's frustrating but it will pass. Find a distraction from the scale, and measure inches or sizes. It's not you, stalls are normal and the 3wk one is famous on the wls boards.

I'm 2 weeks out as of yesterday. I 'm currently blaming PMS, but I haven't lost anything in days. Woe, I know. I'm trying to ignore it as much as possible.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
