As they say - "this too shall pass". After just a few months post-op I could drink quite a bit of Water at a time, no sipping. And I use straws now also, but I don't really remember when I started doing it.

In 2 days Ill be 4 months out (wow, it seems like its been longer :) ) Anyway, I still sip because if I dont, I get in trouble. I dont throw up, but I get a queezie stomach for a few seconds....But as far as a straw goes....I LOVE drinking through straws....Thats really the best way to keep me from drinking too fast, it really helps me. Now, the dr has not told me I cant use it, I'm not real sure on the reasoning as to why you cant, or if you really arent supposed to, I dont know, but I do it ALLLL the time!

Best of luck to you...You're going to love your sleeve! :)

I was about two months out when I felt like I could drink tea or Water normally. I can drink with a straw now, three months out, but not sure when that was possible. There were a few weeks that it seems I always wanted to drink more than I was able to handle...and when it was time to eat, I REALLY wanted to drink with the meal. Both of those things have subsided. Thanks goodness!

I have been drinking with a straw all along, my doctor doesn't prohibit them. I have also been able to take normal-sized swallows of liquid since about six weeks out. However, if I drink too fast I will have to burp to get the air out to make room for the liquid...

Wow thank you all for the responses. I hate the fact that I have to sip so slowly......it makes me not want to drink, because sometimes I so easily forget and take too big of a sip and it gives me this queasy feeling. I know I'm only a week out, but this gives me something to look forward to.

I remember feeling depressed because I felt I couldn't even drink normal anymore. But after a few months I was fine drinking faster not a whole glass at a time but more normal. I never had a issue with a straw. Good luck!

Everything they brought to me in the hospital had a straw in it. I am sure Dr. Aceves must know they bring his patients straws in the hospital.

I always ask for a straw when I am out and I use one at home. I know I drink more when I have a straw.

Just sip as you feel necessary. You'll know when you take too big of a drink.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
