More bad news-hysterectomy

Recommended Posts

My heart it broken! Went for my pre-surgery testing today. The hospitalist says my red blood cell count is 7 (1/2 what it should be) and my blood sugar is very low too. My April 19th surgery date is canceled. I cried and cried and thought I was going to lose my mind. I finally got thru the hurdle of insurance approval so I thought I was good to go. This is a devastating blow for me. I have worked my whole life around planning this surgery. I have bought all my post-op foods and supplements and planned every last detail about how I was going to make this work. Doctor would not even discuss rescheduling until they figure out what is wrong which is good but I feel like I have been shot in the heart right now. SO disappointed! :(

So not sure if you guys remember me from the post above about a week ago but wanted to give you an update. I went to see my ob/gyn. They did ultrasound and found out for sure why I am so anemic. My Uterus is 5X the size it should be and I have 2 large fibroids. He does not think an IUD or ablasion will help. He said I need a hysterectomy. He said uterus is so big that it will have to be an open procedure instead of lap. That is okay by me EXCEPT IF IT MESSES WITH MY SLEEVE SURGERY! Ob/gyn said to get my Iron level checked next week and if it is up enough he will talk to the bariatric surgery about doing the sleeve and they hysterectomy at the same time. What do you guys think about this??? So confused and a little scared. I want my sleeve guys! Advise needed!

I would think that if it were o.k. to do it then go for it! Obviously your ob/gyn doesn't think that it is out of the question or he would not be talking to the bariatric surgeron about it.

I think if they say you can and all your labs are fine, then go for it!! That way you only have to heal once! Why heal from the hysteroctmy and then have to heal later from the sleeve??

You may feel REALLY BAD for a while, but at least only once!!

Best of luck to you!

Kelly :D

I had my gall bladder out when I got sleeved, so multiple procedures are fairly common. Go for it if you can! Less recuperating with just one surgery.

Well I am feeling more optimistic. You know how they get you up and want you to move around after your sleeve surgery...You suppose that would be okay after the hysterectomy?

I am all about getting everything done at one time! Kinda two for the price of one!

If they're doing an open hysterectomy, then you will be a little slower moving about. I've had 2 C-sections and a full hysterectomy myself, and I don't remember walking up and down the halls quite as quickly with those surgeries. But they will have you up probably sooner than you think you should be (at least that's how I felt - ha!), but you won't be running any marathons. You'll be shuffling around, hunched over a bit maybe, like a little old lady, pushing your IV stand around. It will take a few more days than someone who only has a lap sleeve done before you feel better.

Absolutely, if your drs. say it's OK, I would go for it. The hysterectomy will probably be the hardest to recover from and if you have them together it's one recovery not two. Good luck and let us know!

OMG This is me a year ago!! Check my previous posts from last year. My story is Jan 2010 had ablasion to stop bleeding, didnt work, so went in to 'take a look' (lap) & found out I had endometriosis~ all the while I was waiting to make a date for my sleeve! Dr. couldnt do the hysterectomy during the 'take a look' procedure b/c she needed a robot (devinci machine) to do it lap.. Well again had to post pone my sleeve til I took care of this and the robot wasnt avail til last day of june, so waited to make surgery date til this was completed. well on june 30, 2010 had hyster BUT because my endometriosis was so bad the robot didnt work and they had to do it OPEN- finally made my sleeve date on sept 9, 2010 and everything went very well. I feel great! good luck and all i remember is everything happens for a reason.

Well my sleeve surgery is rescheduled for June 21st! My GYN said it is okay to wait on the hysterectomy. The uterus does have to come out but it is not going to get worse over the next 6 months and the hysterectomy will actually be easier when I have lost weight. I am staying on the Iron pills to get and keep my RBC's up and as long as they stay up I am good for my June 21st sleeve!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
