58 years too old for VSG?

Recommended Posts

I am 58 and will have VSG on Wednesday in Mexico. I am too young to feel so old right now at this weight...barely able to walk because of bone spurs and plantar fasciitis in both heels. Go for it!

I am 59. Have been involved in this program for about 7 months, and see the surgeon TOMORROW. The "age limit" with my insurance is 65, so you are totally ok. If you don't do it now, you will still be getting older each year, only less healthy! I'm going for it>

I'm just starting to research VSG.

I'm 5'7" about 215 pounds and I'm 58 years old.

I want to be thin. I've lost weight a million times :) but never can keep it off. It just gets harder the older I get.

Am I too old to consider this surgery?

Technically.... you are BUYING yourself a longer life. Too old? ... You know that you feel younger than your body will let you feel, carrying the extra weight. We have talked about doing this on and off for years. It is time!

Your friend... ;)

Good God, I hope not! I am 58 and have a surgery date available for June1st. I wonder why is it so difficult to find support for VSG? Everyone in my support group pushes for gastric bypass.

I had mine done when I was 51. I would do the same op if I was older too, it has completely improved my quality of life, and life expectancy, so do it!!!

58 is young. I had my surgery two weeks ago----I'm 60. Would do it again in a minute!

I'm 52 and a lot of the people in my program are in my age range or older.

I think that as this surgery becomes more common, more and more younger and older people will get on board. It may sound silly but some day I think this will be as common as getting braces. Our stomachs are simply too large for the modern world where they are stretched from childhood and get so large we just eat too much to fill them.

If you do not have any major health issues that might slow you down, do the research and go for it!

i am 59; sleeve scheduled for 5/2. To paraphrase someone else's comment on another topic "how old will you be if you don't get the sleeve?". With it, we will live longer than without it.

Hi!

I'm 63 years old, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and a band that never worked for 6 years. I am now 5 days out from sleeve surgery. I feel good! So if you think you're too old, what does that make me? The point is, I want to continue to get old. I understand your cautiousness, but what's the alternative? So, 58 sounds pretty good to me! Good luck! P.S. I already had to cut my bloodpressure meds in half.

I am 57. Had VSG last June. No complications 101 lbs down. Again, wish I had been able to do this years ago! I say "Go for it!"

My mom is having the sleeve two days before her 70th birthday.

Good for her. Never too late to start a new life!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
