Got my surgery date!

Recommended Posts

I saw my surgeon today for my final consult before surgery. I have completed all of my pre-op testing, including an endoscopy.

I have surgery Monday, 3/21/11 with Dr. John Oldham in Louisville KY. I am terrified and excited all at the same time. I can't believe it's happening so quickly.

My biggest concern is that I am supposed to go on spring break with the fam on 3/31 to San Francisco, which will require a lengthy plane ride. Dr. Oldham said it should be okay as long as I get up and move frequently. I'm not sure I will even be up to traveling 10 days post-op, but we will see. I would like to go with my family, but if I don't, it won't be the end of the world. I guess I can give up one vacation for a lifetime of better health and improved quality.

My Dr!!! YAY! So glad to see someone using Dr Oldham!! I am still in the approval phase. How long after you did intake did they schedule your surgery? I am super excited and so ready!! I am waiting on my intake appt.

I have heard a lot of people say WALK WALK WALK after surgery. This will help to pass the gas and CO2 and speed healing - but be easy in bending. I am excited for you!! Please keep us all updated.

YAY!!

YAY!!!! So glad to find someone else with my doctor, too. My experience isn't totally typical. I had my first appointment at Dr. Oldham's on 2/15. I rushed my pre-op testing with my PCP and called and bugged Angela about scheduling me for my scope. I am self-pay, so I know that really helped move my surgery date alot faster than most. No waiting for insurance approval, which is nice. But it would certainly be nice for some insurance help, but it's a specific exclusion with my insurance policy. :(

I met with Dr. Oldham today, and he told me that if he needed WLS, he would have the gastric plication. That was very reassuring to me. I will be the third person he has done this procedure on, which makes me kind of nervous, but I really feel comfortable with him and I've heard excellent things about him.

Are you in Louisville, too? I know they go all over Kentucky.

Thanks for responding! Let's keep in touch!

I am at Ft Knox. Did they offer you the straight sleeve as well as the plication? I wonder how many Sleeves he has done total. I asked Marcia but she didn't know (or wouldn't say IDK). I am going to another seminar with Dr Oldham on the 15th since he didn't make it to the one I went to. I plan on probing him a bit about the sleeve and the plication sleeve. Personally, I think I prefer the sleeve without plication.

I will inbox you my email.

I did a 10 hour flight back to the UK 10 days after my op, so I'm sure you'll be fine on just a domestic one (I flew domestically 3 days after my op).

Did you get up and walk around a lot while you were on the plane?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
