Day 6 post op still lots of diarrhea, is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Ok So I was sleeved on 3/1 at 7am, things have been great so far, no problems at all. I have noticed that since the surgery when I go to the bathroom it is very watery diarrhea, and I for sure will not even think of passing gas without sitting on the toilet.

I'm just wondering if this is normal for most, some, or even a few others? Does it get better once I go back on to regular food?

It will sort itself out. I am 15 days post-op and I too had a concern about this but it sorted itself out right around day 10 or so. I won't say it's back to normal but its much better. Good luck!!

I had that problem for about 2 days after I got home from the hospital. I think it was due to the artificial sweetener in the Crystal Light and the sugar free popsickles. Artifiicial sweeteners do that to me. So I don't use them. I'll probably have a slower weight loss, but alot less chemicals in my body!

If you are still on clears and liquids yes. I was the same way. You aren't eating anything solid so there's nothing solid to come out. Liquids in liquids out.

I had this issue until I started to eat more food with substance (which wasn't until yesterday). I completely understand about sitting on the toilet for passing gas. Things will "bulk up" soon.

I am almost one month out and still have diarrhea several times a day, which really worries me because I will be going back to work next week. I do not work in a office, I am a claim adjuster and spend my days driving around in the company van. If I can not get the diarrhea under control before Friday I may have to ask the doctor to keep me out longer, and I am running out of personal sick leave time.

Re-evaluate your diet. I to have had bad diarrhea and eliminated sugar free pudding and Jello and it slowed down quit a bit. I also had problem with milk but I love milk so much that I still try to have some to maybe get used to it again. I talked to my NUT yesterday and she informed me that sugar alcohols in sugar free products will cause diarrhea (as posted earlier in this thread)

Call and ask if you can take Imodium A D, that is what I was able to take. Please ask because all doctors are different. Good luck.

I am mostly concerned because although I am drinking 75 ounces of Water per day, I am not urinating that often or that much, and its still bright yellow, yet I have extremely watery diarrhea. I'm wondering if I am dehydrated due to the diarrhea? I just called my doctors office and asked if I could take some Imodium AD, I am waiting for them to call back now.

I have been trying to stay away from the sugar free stuff, as it has always bothered my stomach, even prior to surgery. I wonder if there are SF sweeteners in my Protein powder?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
