I am not following. Did you have surgery in 2011? Says 2012. Have you lost any weight? I am so sad that you are discouraged.

@Nannie, I'm sorry you r correct. I had Sleeve June 30, 2011 and my one year will be 2012. I lost 30 but not it's only 19 which means I'm gaining.

There are a few people who have trouble losing, even with the sleeve . The sleeve is the first part of a 2 part surgery. The duodenal switch, or the DS has the malabsorbtion added to it. You may need to look into that surgery.

Sorry to hear this legend. I think that is the number one fear all sleeves have. Have you tried going on the liquid diet for two weeks to see if it will jump start your bodyorretrainingyour body again. I read where if you try this that sometimes it works. If you need someone to talk to I am here. Personally, I know I need the support from fellow VS to get through this. Send me a private message too if you want. I'm here.

Hi everyone. So sorry to hear about some of the issues some of you have and are facing. I have been very blessed and lucky I think. I went on a 6 mile bike ride on Saturday, which felt great! and went swimming saturday and sunday. I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and am down 21 lbs. Most of that was the first week. Since then I am losing 2-3 lbs, but at least I am losing. I may not be getting in enough calories. I think I am running about 500, and I'm sure I'm no where near my Protein quota. Trying to get in a bit more today. I will record in a food tracker and check that out. Have a great evening!

You are doing great! I'm almost eight weeks out and having a really hard time getting my calories in too! Usually I am around 600 but my NUT wants me at 800. But, I get in my Water and make my Protein goals so that's at least something! I do use myfitnesspal.com religiously and do find that helps. I just can still only eat about a 1/2 cup of food at a time so getting in the calories is really hard! I have an appointment with my NUT and Fitness counselor this Friday so I guess I'll see what they say. We're also on about the same losing pattern, I'm 2-3 pounds a week now but it's progress and I feel great! Keep up the great work!

Hi Kat - Been thinking about you every day. Do you know how much longer you have to have daily dressing and packing changes? Can you tell if they are healing well? I sure hope so. What an ordeal you've been through kiddo. The sooner it's just a bad memory, the better eh?? Hang in there....

Kat, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I feel that people searching out their choice of surgeons need to know when things like this happen.

Please share who your surgeon was, so that it will be possible for you to help someone. I am sure that they would find this very useful when trying to decide.

Hi Joni

As of now it is going to take 6 weeks for this to heal. I see the surgeon who opened me up tomorrow morning. It is miserable the constant pressure of the packing and dressings. Not to mention the constant twice daily of cleaning it out even though they freeze it first. Then trying to function In between ugg. I have lost the smile off my face. Thanks for your kind words they mean a lot. Stay in touch.

Kat

Are you talking about the posting on June 22 on this thread? it talks about your horrible ordeal, but does not mention the surgeon's name. I was able to find it on another thread that you posted on.

I hope you are feeling better. This has to be so rough on you. I feel just horrible for you. This should have never happened!!

Kat, since you had the surgery outside of the US, is your insurance going to cover your expenses now? I'm worrying for you!!!! Lordy, lordy! Such a shame to go for your dream and have these kind of complications! You are in all of our thoughts and prayers for continued improvement and quick healing!

Hi Oregon

The surgery was in Mexico by Dr. Garcia. It was the lack of care after them surgery.

Hi NannieG

No insurance paid for the surgery. I paid out of pocket. The surgeon here says complications can arise anywhere.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
