Monday, Jan 31- Sleeve Day

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Today I had all my pre op blood work/EKG etc. I can't wait to have the surgery and to drop this weight I have.

I was wondering if anyone out there who had the surgery can answer a few questions for me.

First, today I was told by someone to make sure I start taking Biotin. She told me that her hair fell off after the surgery. She had the Lap band, but she urged me to take them.

Also, she told me that I will be throwing up if I eat too much.

All this sounded like the lap band but is the sleeve the same way?

How long did you stay in the hospital?

How much did you loose the 1st month?

I would be greatful for any tips.

As we all know we get text book answers from our doctors, but I want to hear it from people who have been through it

Thank You All

Toula

i want to wish you luck on your surgery on monday. I'm sure you will do great! i spent just one night in the hospital. I lost about 20 lbs the 1st month, But remember we all are different and differents sizes so it differs. It has been one of the best decisions of my life and i'm sure it will be for you too. Something that helped me the first week is an icepack on my stomach.... LOVED IT... try to get as much Protein in as possible and you will heal faster. Try to start walking as soon as possible ...just making laps around the hospital or around your house.Keep us informed on how yu do. praying for you!

Hi Toula! Congrats on making the decision on getting this surgery done! I had my surgery done 16 days ago, I have lost 15 pounds so far! I still have 2 weeks to go before I can progress to the stage 4 diet ( "puree" foods). Right now I am only on all liquids. It sucks, but I would rather give my new stomach a chance to heal completely before eating anything else. I am walking as much as I can, and I have never been so happy to get this surgery done!

I have never heard of Biotin. My nurse practitioner has made me take Vitamin D for 2 months prior to my surgery, plus a chewable Multi-Vitamin everyday. Of course, drinking lots of Ensure & Boost that's high in protein! So far, so good!

Good Luck on your surgery. The biotoin is to reduce the amount of hairloss, in my opinion it doesen't help but I did take it. Some suggest Zinc also.I started losing hair @ 2 months post op and lost it until 7th month. Today is my 9 month anniversary and my hair is starting to grow back. I'm 53 yrs old and this was the easiest surgery I have ever had.

I have never thrown up with the sleeve. Yuo will be able to feel when you are full enough. I stayed 1 nite in the hospital

. The pain wasn't bad. Try to drink 2 oz every 15 minutes that you are awake and it will help you stay hydrated, mix unflavored whey Protein in anything you can, broth,Soup. The Protein speeds healing. It is an amazing tool.Let us know your ok. :)

Good Luck! I felt the same way about surgery. I take biotin-my hair used to shed prior to surgery and when I started the Biotin, I only have a few strands shred while I am in the shower. It was very inexpensive at Walmart. I am just at the 2 month mark so I have not experienced the Hair loss and hope I don't. I have never thrown up, never had any nausea. Others have had different experiences. I made sure I followed my doctors guideline. I was lucky to even eat the amount they suggested-I still measure things out and still leave a few bites if I feel full. I was only in the hospital one night-start walking in the hospital. It makes a huge difference. I probably lost 20 the first month. I did gain while in the hosptial due to the IV fluids but it came off pretty quickly. It is a great journey.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
