Hey Everyone!

I made it back safe and sound without any trouble - thanks for all your information and well wishes - I appreciate them! The surgery went well and I only had what I would consider the normal amount of discomfort after surgery. I did have a few minutes of remorse in the recovery room and the day after surgery when I was still feeling a bit under the weather but I think it's gone now. Still sore of course around my port area but my appetite is returning and I actually felt hungry today. I was hoping it would stay away a little longer so the 4 weeks of dietary restriction would go a little faster but, oh well - I'll just have to manage! Lucky to have no shoulder pain, but oh yeah, lots of gas!

The only thing I could complain about was their alcohol swabs, and that's pretty minor but in the cardiologist's office the girl took a cotton ball out of a glass jar full of cotton balls and alcohol and I noticed the alcohol was cloudy....? The other time was in the hospital when they took out my IV. She put a cotton ball dampened with alcohol on my hand and taped it down. I kept smelling something sour and even asked my friend if she smelled something like yogurt in the room. I thought maybe my clothes stunk from the suitcase because I had just showered and changed them a little earlier. When I took the tape and cotton ball off my hand the smell got really strong and when I put it to my nose I almost puked! What on earth can grow in alcohol to make it sour - and why aren't we dying from infections? I figure they must put something in their mix because I didn't get any infection at all. Really weird!

Telly - I think it's a requirement to be hot to work in Dr. Rumbaut's office. They all had it going on didn't they - and how beautiful is Elsa? Did she have the picture of the SUPER HOT guy in the frame on her desk when you were there? She said he's just some random guy but that she's using him for postive imagery! Have you heard anything out of Amy? I was wondering how she was doing but haven't had time to check around here for her.

Thanks again everyone! It's nice to have this over with and I'm anxious to get on with the day to day life of a lapbander! I'll check in soon.

I think it's just the way the alcohol is in Mexico. I went to a diff. surgeon, but I went to the store the day after surgery to buy alcohol to take the stickiness off my body from the betadine. YUCK. It smelled so sour.

Thanks for the info on the alcohol - that's good to know so anyone considering going there won't be alarmed! I couldn't imagine what on earth was wrong with it or what could possibly be growing in it - very strange indeed! I'm very glad to know that is the way it's supposed to be - at least there!

Thanks,

Andy

I bought Pond's cream from that store behind the hotel. It took off the black pieces of gum or glue and took off betadine that made my skin look jaundice. Pond's cream works great. That stuff came right off.

How's everyone doing here? Some of the boards have been kind of quiet lately and I'm wondering what everyone has been up to? We've had absolutely beautiful weather here in Missouri, sunny and low 70's - it's starting to feel like fall and I LOVE it! It gives me a little extra energy! Check it gang!

Doing fine here, getting everything ready in the house (pantry) to get started next week on the 2 week liquids, and mushies. I leave for Mexico on Teusday night and Wed will be all pre-ops. Thursday is surgery! Really excited about that part. The weather here in Texas is wonderful. After days and days of over 100 Degree weather, this morning is 69 with a high of 88. Cool weather at my house has a strange effect on the men in my life. Makes them all want to pee off the porch, don't ask ,me why! It's an animal thing is all I can figure. LOL

Dear Mom,

That cracks me up - and the men around here pee off the porch too - I'm just glad it's the back porch!!! The 14th is my MIL's birthday so when we're wishing her a happy birthday I'll be sending you good wishes too! It will all be over before you know it and the liquid phase will pass like a bad dream.

I'm doing fine on mushies and don't feel a great need to tear into anything solid. I think I'll make it another week! I can't believe how quickly time passes!

Good luck and enjoy the time in Monterrey! Hey, if you feel like it the driver at the hotel can take you to the mall. It's the same as any other mall but they had some nice souveniers. Oh, I guess there was one big difference I noticed.... they have many stores that sell beautiful evening gowns and fancy sequined dresses. Nothing like that around here except for prom time or specialty wedding shops - interesting..... You can also get some ice cream to give you a nice change of pace from the other liquids! That alone is worth the trip! Also worth the trip, getting 1 scoop of ice cream and not being able to eat the entire thing!

FYI - the driver from the hotel was late picking us up so we took a cab back to the hotel. Be sure to take a card with the hotel address on it to give the cab driver and some extra cash. I think it was about $6 so not a big deal. Have fun and best of luck!

Dr. Rumbaut is having a patient party in September, anyone going? I really would like to go. I believe it's in Vegas but I will do some further research.

Do you blame the leaking port on Dr. Rumbaut? Would you still recommend this doctor?

I had lapband surgery with Dr. Rumbaut June 1 2006. I really haven't read this entire thread but my opinion of Dr. Rumbaut is this:

He is a very experienced Lapband surgeon: one of the MOST experienced surgeons in the hemisphere. He is a lapbabd patienthimself. He seems to care about every patient. Look on my profile for my surgery experience. I will be 2 years out on June 1 and I am thankful that Dr Rumbaut placed my band.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
