AN Injection the day Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

My doctor has perscribed an injection for me to have the day before my surgery. I pick it up at the drug store and find a person I am comfortable with to give it to me or I can go back to my doctor. He told me what it was for but I can't remember and I can't read his handwriting to look it up on the internet. Anyone else have to have an injection the day before surgery.

Your best bet is to take it to the pharmacist and let him/her read it and tell you what it is. Is it B-12? I just can't imagine what the doc would have you be injecting the day before surgery? Yourself?! I'm interested in finding out what it is!

The medication is LOVINOX (dosage is weight based) and it's a blood thinner that is injected into the belly fat. It's similar to Heparin. Any RN or MD can give it to you. You will also likely get an injection prior to going to the OR and the morning after to prevent leg clots which could cause pulmonary emboli (lung clots). I hope that helps.

I had Lovenox at the hospital on the day of surgery and I also had it for 30 days after surgery and had to give it to myself. I sure wish I only had one injection! It will burn for about fifteen minutes after you put it in, so you might want to take a pain killer as a preventative.

I had a Lovenox injection the day of surgery as well. Also I have a blood clotting issue so I also am taking one shot a day for 30 days after surgery. I took two shots a day for my entire pregnancy and never had a problem. I've also taken them in the past due to a blood clot. They never really have bothered me.

Not the day before, the day of surgery and for 10 days afterwards. I was told that anticoagulant injections are pretty much standard for overweight patients.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
