Does anyone have any input on this? I have hardly any PTO time currently and was hoping to get my surgery scheduled for February sometime. My thoughts were I could possibly use Short Term Disibility but honestly I know nothing about it I've never had to use it before and was wondering if I even could for this type of surgery. Thanks in advance for any help.

You would need to check with your STD Carrier and see their requirements. Sometimes there is a waiting period of x days before benefits kick in. Also, many have a pre-existing clause that may exclude obesity.

I used FMLA and Short Term Disability. It was a cinch to use. We have a great HR person at my job and she helped me through everything. We have a 7 calandar day waiting period. So there was one week that I did not get paid. I'm sure all companies plans are different. It worked out ok though because there were 5 pay days in December. Good Luck

Hey thanks much Middlesister.....what do you know we have something in common I'm also a middle sister :) but anyhow that makes me a lot merrier knowing that you were able to use those benefits for your surgery. I'm hoping I can too. I guess I don't know if I should talk with HR now or wait till I get a date set or should I speak with my doctor about it first??? So many question.....what to do what to do...

I am using short-term and fmla for my surgery. I don't know how your short term works but mine I get 1 week pay for every year of service that I have. I have 16 years so I guess 16 weeks of pay is plenty of time to be off. I am a heavy lifter at my warehouse so the doc put me out for 6 weeks. 6 weeks of 100% pay who can go wrong with that. YOu need to get with your human resources and find out the deets on your short term. who knows they might pay 100%. Anyways good luck

I think mine is 3 days of PTO time before my short term kicks in. I don't think they pay at 100% just like 80% or something. I'm just crossing my fingers that I can go that route so I won't have to take time off unpaid and I am able to take enough time off to heal. Thanks for all the help.

Every company is different but definately take to the HR and they can tell you exactly how it would work and for the paperwork to complete prior to surgery. I had to have my doctor complete their portion prior to leaving for surgery. My company had 5 days which I had to use PTO and then short term disability-which only paid at 75%. I work as customer service phone rep at home so I didn't have to commute to work so I was able to return to work after 5 days. It was a little rough but I got up and paced for a few minutes every hour.

My short term disability was from Aflac and some IMRF (state employees fund) and they required a note from the doctor that it was medically necessary for the surgery. My doctor said yes without a doubt.

I also filled out FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) to protect my job in this economy and also to get the surgery on my schedule and not my job schedule.

Mine is a 3 day waiting period for it to start unless there is surgery and it begins the day of surgery. Mine is 80% pay but they do not tax it so it works out about even.

I went on STD for the month I was off. The first 7 days were not covered, so I used sick time for those days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
