I am having my surgery in my home state (700 miles away).

My question is, I'm having my surgery on the 20th of Jan. I'm told 2 nights in hospital barring any complications. How long do you think I need to stay close to the facility? I planned on staying 2 more nights by the facility after the 2 in the hospital. I want to travel to my relatives house 90 miles away to recuperate for 4 more nights before returning for a follow-up visit and then returning home. Does it seem feasible that I can stay 1.5 hours away from the facility 4 days after my surgery?

They do a leak test before you leave the hospital so there should be no reason that you cant go that far away. But if something should happen (very very unlikely0 you can just go to the nearest ER.

I really don't see the need to spend extra money at a nearby hotel. You will likely have a leak test before leaving the Hospital. After that you should be free to go home really. Just be very careful when swallowing.

I personally would travel that 90 miles to your relatives house to rest for a few more days before traveling the long trek home. Nothing wrong with that. Especially since they're probably already expecting you.

All the best!

You're doing almost exactly what I'm doing. I traveled 1000 miles from where I currently live to have surgery in my home state of Texas. I had surgery in Dallas first thing in the morning, stayed all that day, over night and left the following day about 3 PM. I left Dallas and went 2 hours to my dad's house in East Texas. This is where our story changes a little. I stayed at his house for four days and then went for my one week follow up visit. Dr. Davidson requires a two week follow up as well, so we rented a beach house in Galveston. After my one week visit, we drove from Dallas to Galveston. It was a six hour drive, but we stopped every hour so I could get out and walk....that is important because of blood clots and sitting. We went back for my two week visit, and flew home three days later. I felt fine, never had any problems. I had the "ok" just so I stopped every hour and got out to walk around the car and when I flew home I had to get up every hour and walk down the isle as well.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
