"Full" pains---questions

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was sleeved on November 1 and this was my first week on soft or pureed foods. I had never experienced the horrible feeling of too full until this week. At both Thanksgiving meals we had, I only had about 3 oz if that much of soft mushy foods and got this bad feeling. I was full but had shooting pain going into my armpits. Sound weird? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I don't know what a heart attack feels like. This was just kind of scary to me. It lasted for about 30 minutes then subsided.

It could have been an Esophageal spasm. They feel exactly like a heart attack, it's the same nerves for the heart that are effected when you have an Esophageal spasm. They are common after the sleeve surgery for some people. I had them before my sleeve and the sleeve has cured them thus far, thank goodness. They. are. awful!

It's either that or just the normal restriction reacting to you having a little too much to eat. Try not to measure out 3oz, and plan on eating all of it (what you should be able to eat); instead try to feel or look for indications that you are full before you finish it.

It wasn't until about 2 months out that I could eat a full 2-3oz of food without causing myself to be very uncomfortable. I know we are supposed to be able to eat 3oz but that's after the swelling goes down, at just one month out your swelling itsn't even close to down yet.

I still measure my food in a 1/4 of a cup portion and eat until I feel my body telling me enough. Sometimes I don't finish my 1/4 of a cup. I hate hate hate sliming and I do everything I can to avoid it.

If it keeps happening contact your Dr. maybe he/she can give you something if it's Esophageal spasms.

I agree with everything Alish sais above. It is definitely esophogeal spasms. My doctor warned me about them and said it would feel like a heart attack. Try eating less at each sitting. I, too, couldn't eat 3 oz until much later in the game when the swelling had gone down.

How long do the spasms last? I had this horrid pain in the hospital, it happened after an unexpected cough. I thought it was a diaphram spasm as the pain was horizontal right under my lungs. I heard a nurse whisper to another one about esophageal spasm but they never said it to me directly. I had to go back on the iv pain med that night and the pain lasted for about 6 hours. The next morning I felt like I had been punched around the rib cage over and over. No one seemed overly concerned, but it was painful and I don't want that again.

Well thanks for the responses. I luckily haven't had this feeling lately. I didn't realize that the nerves are the same as a heart attack when you have one of these spasms. Very interesting. How long is it until the swelling goes down? I hope after all of the swelling goes down that I still have enough restriction to get my attention. I so far love my sleeve and am eager to keep losing weight. In about a week, I want to start working out. Right now I am only walking. My doctor said to wait 6 weeks before strenuous workout. I hope I continue to lose weight. I made it through Thanksgiving just fine and know I'll make it through Christmas. Good luck to all of you during the holdiays.

HI THERE.

DOES THE 1/4 CUP AND 2 OUNCES ALSO GO FOR THE YOGURT AND CREAM Soup (SLIDER FOOD) AS WELL??

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
