Thinking about having Surgery

Recommended Posts

Thinking about having surgery and looking at the Dallas area. Insurance not an option, so have to pay out of pocket. Any suggestion on Surgeons and lower cost options would be VERY appreciated. Thanks

Best wishes in your research. I have zero personal experience with any of these surgeons, but have a few friends that have used them.

Dr. Nick Nicholson

Dr. Wade Barker

Dr. David Kim

There are members here that have used all of the above surgeons as well. You might want to do a search for those surgeons in the search box, and see if you can find some of their posts. I did research Dr. Nick and Dr. Barker pretty intensely when I was looking at self-pay for my revision vs. Dr. Aceves in Mexico only because my husband would freak out with me going to Mexico.

Hawk,

I'm using Dr. Barker in Dallas. He seems very capable, if a bit on the brusque side! When it's all said and done, though, I'd rather have a great surgeon with a so-so personality than the other way around! His office is VERY busy. While I have never had to spend the hours waiting that some have, my surgery had to be scheduled 5 weeks out---12/29! I do have insurance that will cover WLS so not up on his pricing, but I would definitely check him out.

i had lapband revision surgery with dr jaysaleen in dallas 6 weeks ago. he is very nice and his staff is amazing. although i am now wanting the sleeve (long story) i would reccommend dr jay for sure. his price for a sleeve is roughly $11,000. have you considered Mexico? i just got off the phone with sandy from dr kellys office and i am going to book my surgery as soon as i have the deposit. his fee for a sleeve is $5300 and he is talked about very highly on this site.

good luck to you!

I first began looking in Texas as well ( i'm in Houston) and searched as far away as El Paso. I didn't find that would not require at least a 13,000 dollar loan that's including incidentals ( flight, hotel etc.) I am currently scheduled for surgery in Mexico (December 8th) and my total cost is 5500 (including flight and hotel) the surgery by itself is 4500. I initially planned to get it done in the summer but If I would have waited till then it would have cost an additional 3,000 dollars plus about 1000 in incidentals. So just throwing that out there....

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
