How many surgery scars do you have?

Recommended Posts

I must admit, I'm slightly jealous of people who are talking about the since incision VSG surgery that is new. It really doesn't matter, as I'm not looking to wear a bikini any time soon. lol

So I wondered how many scars everyone has...

I have 5.

All above my bellybutton. Two that are about 1.25 inches long, then 2 itty bitty ones, and the one sort of oval shaped one where the drain was (ugliest one of all since there were no stitches, etc.)

Also wondered how some of the vets feel about their scars, have they faded considerably, are they "noticable", etc.

I have 18 scars on my abdomen. Had 5 from the band placement, 4 lap sites, and one big incision for the port. Gained 3 more for the revision, he used 2 of my old lap sites, and the port incision during the revision, gained 2 more from the leak repair, had 4 drains placed during my revision recovery, 2 after the leak repair, and 2 for the abscesses that developed 6 weeks out. Gained 4 more lap sites and one in my bellybutton (that is not visible) with my gallbladder removal and when he did an exploratory to remove adhesions and scar tissue from my abdomen this past February.

Honestly, I could give 2 poops about the scars. Between the scars, and little white stretch marks, my stomach looks like a road map of Texas. They're all light, pale pink with the exception of the drain sites, those were open for weeks on end, and they are a bit of a rosey, mauve? color maybe? I guess they don't bother me, I don't do anything to minimize them, and I know that I'll lose some of them when I have plastics done. Overall, I really don't let scars bother me. I inherited moles from my maternal gradmother, I've had several removed by freezing and some cut out, and have those scars, plus 2 knee surgeries, a horrific c-section scar, my arm is scarred up from when I broke it in 4th grade and the lady that cut off my cast, burned with me with the cast cutter back in the late 80's before the cutters were safer and didn't hurt the skin.

My daddy told me "scars are like scratches on my truck honey, they just add character, and make for a good story typically". I guess I just always lived with that mindset on scars.

As I keep counting them every other minute, to ensure I actually had the surgery on monday (feeling a bit too good to be true at the moment), I can with certainty say that I have 5! One slightly bigger just by the bellybutton (used to remove the "left-over" stomach), and then another three small ones at about the same level. Last, small one, is higher up. Where I had it done they don't insert any drain, so all the incisions are from the surgical tools.

I've got 6. 3 x's 1.25 inches and 3 x's .5 inches. I was hoping for some "cooler" looking scars too. All the scars are really neat (the doc used glue) and are all parallel to each other. It looks like I lost a knife fight with some kind of OCD thug! ;)

I have five as well. At the start, three were about a half-inch long, another was about 3/4s of an inch, and the biggest one above the navel was about 1.25 inches long. Now, the three smallest are maybe an eighth of an inch, the fourth is about a quarter of an inch, and the long one's about half an inch. To look in the mirror, the four smallest wouldn't stand out as anything more than spots on the skin. The long one still shows, it's dimpled in a little because of the remaining fat around it and the little bit of loose skin I have there pulling down on it. They're all faded though and even the big one won't stop me from showing my belly around the pool next year. :D

5 - one is inside my bellybutton and not visible at all, so only 4 visible ones. I've been pretty lucky with my drain scar so far - on a lot of people, I've seen it turned into a really deep dent, sometimes almost like a 2nd bellybutton, but with me, it's pretty flat. Probably because I didn't have that much fat and, consequently, extra skin on my stomach to begin with.

I have 15 . I got 5 from the band surgery, 5 for the sleeve surgery, and 7 months later,

5 more for the gall bladder removal. The only ones that still really show are the gb ones.

The rest have faded so much, you can barely see them.

I have 5 with 2 bottom ones being a little bigger. At 60 yrs old and being somewhat prudish anyhow, I doubt I'll ever wear a bikini anyhow. I did shock myself the other day though when I pulled my britches down from my belly and showed someone my scars! LOL. That's really not me normally, but I'm so proud of my surgery I've done some other things out of character.

OCD thug! Nice one big geek.

I have 6 from VSG and 4 from a previous gall bladder surgery. Not bad. Maybe I'll take a pic and upload it.

Hi, I have six four are real small including where my drain was are fading. One is about 1.5" next to my belly button and the another is around 2" none are really bad. As I am losing and my stomach is shrinking its getting kind of lumpy looking(G)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
