The Official What You Will Need For Your Upcoming Weightloss Surgery Thread!

  • Popular Post

QUESTION:

"I'm having surgery soon, what will I need for my hospital stay or for shortly after???"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, this question comes up here so much - I felt it would be a great idea to start up an official thread. My plan is once I think the list is great enough, I'm going to create a checklist for all the folks out there that will be sleeved shortly and have the above question. Then if you are around long enough and as much as I am, and someone has that question you can just lead them to this thread. Fair enough?
Sometimes it's just nice to have everything all in the same place, kinda following the WalMart rule of thumb. They are very successful, aren't they?
Anyway, please start with your suggestions and I'll get my MSWord fired up. ;-) I'll also start with the first suggestion:
Comfy Pajamas, underclothes, and slippers or warm cozy socks...
If you are a diabetic don't forget your glucometer and plenty of test strips when you pack your meds.
I'm so glad this is a thread! I have my surgery in october and am starting to think about things like this already! So excited to start my new life, but I want to be extra careful and follow dr directions strictly so that I can have a healthy recovery!
You can get socks at walgreen, walmart, cvs, online. Also look online. Your company might provide. You can machine wash and drip dry.
My surgery is 9/12/14, and this thread has really helped me with making a list of things I need for my trip. I am flying to Mexico and will be in the hospital for 2 days and another day in the hotel after surgery. Should I pack all of my vitamins for the trip?
My doctor told me I had to bring my CPAP machine. Some hospitals have them and you only need to bring your mask and tubing. She told me that sometimes if there are a lot of people that need it, you may not get one.
I'm appreciative of the suggestions - I don't have a date yet - still need to finish up classes and final appointments, then will get med records and appt with the surgeon, so anticipate Dec / Jan. I'm very excited but still scared. I'm reading all I can about it - did get the Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve. Have already read another from someone who had this done, will continue to get as much info as I can. Wish I could just get this going more quickly, but, everything in it's own time!
I see several posts about shakers etc. those were not for the hospital right ?i assume all the nutrition u need while in hospital they would provide. But do they let you plug your stuff in? Cell phone etc?
I am going to be having surgery at the end of the month and I have heard some many things on what you can and can't have before and after surgery. So what are some of the best things to have for your liquid diet before surgery as well as after?? Also I'm a spark girl(single mom works 8-10 hr days so I need my energy) is that something you can have after surgery? Again any advice would be great, so confused about everything you read cause you see so may different things different places.
Thank you in advance
