Hey guys, Globetrotter here, I'm finally back in my living space in Iraq. I've showered, slept, and oh yeah, been rushed to the combat hospital with dehydration after a 72 hour traveling ordeal.

I sip sip sipped on Protein Water during the commercial flights, I nibbled on the scrambled egg, soft meat and cheeses offered during the flights. I was still doing good even when I flew military from Kuwait to Iraq. Things didn't go downhill till I got stuck in one spot in Iraq and the ac was out and I started to sweat more than I could hydrate. I faded pretty fast after that, I made it to my destination, barely. I was rushed from the airfield to the hospital where I received 3 bags of fluids, two of which were glucose. I'm on bedrest now and am sipping Water and rtd Protein drinks. Right now I have to violate one of our commandments regarding the not eating and drinking, in order to get my hydration levels where they need to be and get in the nutrition I have to eat and drink, not simultaneously but I cannot observe the 15 min/30min rule for a day or two.

So, after all this, what upsets me? The fact that after I was done at the hospital I weighed myself and am UP 10 pounds from when I was weighed at my surgeons over a week ago!:w00t: Feelin' pretty low right now.

Ouch! Just focus on getting healthy for now. Hope it's ok from now on. It's extremely hot here, too, I guzzled about 3 liters of Water today and am worried about how I'm gonna make sure to stay hydrated once I'm back from my VSG on Friday!

Hopefully most of that is "water weight" from all those fluids and will come off quickly once you start moving and feeling better!!

Don't worry! Once you're feeling better, the weight will be dropping off.

The 10 lbs is probably IV fluids. Once you're properly hydrated again, and can exercise, I'm sure that will drop back off.

I can understand you feeling bummed after going through so much to lose weight, then finding you had gained! Natural reaction.

It will be alright, though. Keep concentrating on Protein & fluids. Nurture yourself. The weight loss will come. We're here for you!

Oh my goodness, what a scary time for you, I'm so glad to hear that thins are improving. Even for people who don't go through the trauma your body did gaining weight just post op is really normal. Please above all be patient with yourself and your body. The surgery itself is very traumatic, you just lost 80% of an organ. That is a biggie, then your recovery has been super difficult. Your body is going to hold on to everything it can for a bit, in an effort to ensure you survive. You will get there and lose weight almost inspite of yourself! Best of luck.

Anna

First of all, I'm so glad you are okay. That must have been pretty scary. Did you have anyone there to help you?

Second of all...HAVE NO FEAR...WEIGHT LOSS IS NEAR.

I am guessing you are like me. You want it off NOW. I'm a little disappointed too...but trying to be positive.

You have us to lean on. In 6 months, we'll read the post that will say, "WOW...I've lost so much".

Sounds like a traumatic trip... but you're safe now.

Don't worry about the gain - I gained all that I had lost on my pre op which was upsetting, but I knew it would come off long term - It'll happen with you too.

Take care....

Gosh Sunshine, thank you so much for posting that, I really needed the boost *gulp*. I took a few days in my room to rest, recuperate, & rehydrate and am now back at work. Still feel a little tired and weak but much better. I must give a shout out to the soldiers who helped me, they did not waste any time and gave me great care. When I had the surgery my surgeon prescribed an anti-anxiety pill which I thought was odd. Now, I'm so glad I have them, I am having all sorts of anxious sad thoughts and the real icing on the low-carb cake was the pair of pants that I had waiting for me that were a mere 2 sizes smaller than what I was wearing pre-op ... didn't fit. :sad0: I mean didn't fit, belly hanging out, couldn't even begin to get the zipper near itself, the button was a good two inches away from the button hole. I supposedly lost 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks, I thought this would have at least got me within spitting distance of the pants fitting ... so it's back to the enormous baggy elephant grey cargo pants, a real bummer.

I won't weigh myself until the 14th, that's one month out from surgery. I'm making it on fluids, eating just under my calorie goal, and making my Protein quota. Haven't started exercising yet due to the fatigue so, we'll see.

Plus, my boyfriend has redeployed to the states and not having him here within phone call distance hurts more than I anticipated. sigh.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
