September sleevers wanted!

Recommended Posts

The best advice I can give to you guys is to stay in the hospital an extra day if you can. I was fine the first 2 days but the 3rd (was rough) and I was happy I was somewhere that I could get help if needed. Also nice to have someone bring you broth when you are tired and feeling crappy. *at the risk of TMI it was also nice to have a bathroom close by*

I also think I had an easier time because my husband and I walked a lot the 2nd day. We were both still on morphine so it made it pretty easy honestly. Don't forget to do your breathing exercises... it is counter-intuitive to breathe deeper when it hurts a little but in the end you will be happy you did!!

That first week I will admit was a little rough. Not impossible, but you really need to take it easy and take care of yourself. : )

12 days out and 16.5 pounds! Yay us! Isn't it exciting to wake up every day and look in the mirror to see if we look different?

I'm not quite into the mirror yet. I still have this JP drain, with a big bandage over it.. so that alone.. ick, freaks me out.

BUT.. I did get on the scale and am down 15 lbs since the night before surgery. GO ME! Considering I'm on an all clear liquid diet, I'm not really surprised though. haha...

After Wednesday when this drain comes out, I might start getting dressed and/or looking INTO the mirror! I want to start with pictures too. I have some from a few days ago.. whew they are for the way way way back archives.. lol.

So how are all the September sleevers? Especially my fellow 17th-ers. This is the first day I woke up with no pain:thumbup:

I am a little sore right now from scrubbing the bathroom - except the floor cause that's a LONG way down there!! A sinkful of dirty dishes is calling my name, but a girl's gotta know her limits and I hate doing dishes anyway!

My incisions are driving me batshit and I can't keep from peeling a little more of the strips away and scratching under 'em.

I am at the point I am glad i had this surgery - especially since my surgeon found cirrhosis and I never would have known I had it until it was too late if someone hadn't been digging around in there!

Had sleeve surgery on 9/2 and I feel really good. In fact, the last 2 weeks have been really good. First couple of weeks were a little tough, but not unbearable. Meds helped. Was a little difficult to sleep and incisions were sore. But, let me say this ~

IT WAS WORTH IT ALL!!! Would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I have lost 23 lbs (including 2 week pre-op diet) and clothes are beginning to get loose ~ love it! :biggrin0:

Good luck, Jordien. I hope all goes well for you in getting your drain out today. That alone should make you feel better. Each day is a new day and you will get stronger and stronger. Be careful when you start on solids ~ it can be a challenge. Just go slow. I was so anxious for something savory tasting instead of sweet. My first thing was a scrambled egg mashed up pretty good and, man, was it delicious!

Congrats on the 15 lbs. so far! Lots more to come. Let us hear how things go for you.

HOORAY US!!! We are all doing so super, Congratulations on our weight losses so far! It'd be interesting to see exactly how much us September Sleevers are down collectively. :biggrin0:

Jordien, oh my word - you still have your drain in??? :001_smile: I got mine out on day 3 and it couldn't have been soon enough! It hurt so bad... ack! When are you supposed to have it removed?

I was sleeved on 9/8/10 and did great the 1st 2wks! But now I think I've hit the dreaded 3wk stall!! I've been up 1lb. down 1lb. for the past 6 days :001_smile: Is anyone else going through this? I'm trying to be patient but I'm about ready to chunk my scale out the window!

Meriteri,

Hang on. That third week is a stall for many of us, but things will pick up quicker than you can imagine. I thought I was doing something wrong because of it. However, your body has just gone through a major change and it needs time to heal and learn new habits. The first two weeks I was down 14 lbs and now week four I am down 23 lbs. It will get better. You still have surgical swelling and Fluid retention I am sure.

Let us hear how you are in a couple of weeks. I bet it will be really good!

Take care.

Debra

I'm am experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall for 11 days now. UGH!~ SOooo frustrating! But went over and double checked my Protein intake and seen I was lacking about 20 grams! (stupid me, miscounted my Protein Shakes and just counted on that figure for the last 11 days!) Now that I caught that, I am hoping this is going to break. Below is a link that Maddie wrote --great explaination for stalls- A MUST READ!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
