How often did you change clothes sizes?

Recommended Posts

I have been wondering, how fast did you change clothes size. Right now I have several sizes anyway due to my losing and gaining weight. But what did everyone do about clothes? I'm a size 24 right now, how long will I be in size 24 after surgery. I know everyone is different in their weight loss, but I just want to get a general idea. My surgery is August 24th, what size winter clothes will I need, and how fast did you go through sizes? I don't want to buy alot of a certain size clothes, and only wear it a couple of times, and move on. I did see the thread about clothes exchanges, and I plan on being active in that, but like when I go to Walmart, and see clothes for $1.50 I'm picking up different sizes, not alot because with my luck, my surgeon will post pone my surgery.

I just want to say I feel real comfortable here because I would never just blurt out my size to anyone. lol I feel as though you all are my friends, I mean I already have something in common with each and everyone of you. :)

I was changing pant sizes every 3-4 weeks. Was really amazing! Shirts were a little slower - however now I don't want to wear tops that are loose at all! Wanna show off the waist! : )

Good Luck! You will love it!

I started out in a 24 and at 3 weeks, I was a 22. Now at almost 6 weeks I am almost to an 18.

Wow, that is great. I know what you mean I am a baggy clothes person. I can't even grasp the thought of being able to wear shirts that are not baggy on me. I can not wait though every shirt I own, I have to pin to my bra strap. I guess they think all bigger women have big chests. I will not miss having to shop for plus size clothes.

Thank you for your replies, it has made me just that much more excited for my surgery. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas, my surgery date is just not getting here fast enough.

I started in a 26/28. 6 weeks out and now my 24's are a little big, but 22 is still a little tight. I can at least get in them though. I haven't been exercising as much as I should honestly. I stalled completely for about a week, but things seem to be picking back up. Lotst 3 more lbs this week and 3 1/2 inches. Good luck with your journey!

Within three weeks I was down one dress size! I couldn't believe how fast it happened. I am about 5 weeks out and some of my pre surgery pants almost fall off of me! I am truly amazed at times by the sleeve!

In plus sizes, it takes a good 30-50lbs to drop sizes, at least that was my experience. I was able to wear my 22's for a couple of months, then dropped to 18s hung out in those for a couple months, and then once I got out of the W sizes, with every 10-20lbs I dropped sizes. I also skipped sizes the smaller I got.

That was a good question and thanks everyone for the replies. I have been wondering the same thing. Today I am 2 months out I was a 22/24 and they were getting tight in tops and 18/20 in pants and now I am a 18/20 in tops and a 16 in pants. I do not want to buy stuff just to wear for a week or 2.

Consignment stores for business casual, goodwill and thrift stores for casual wear.

Hell, I still shop thrift stores. I scored 2 pairs of jeans this week for 10 bucks. One pair of Calvin Klein and one pair of Levis, both still had the original tags on.

I know I'm excited to be able to go to Goodwill and actually find clothes in my size, because in the larger sizes they usually don't have that many, but regular women's clothes they have a lot of. Here the first Saturday of every month everything in Goodwill is half off. I have also been finding alot of clothes a garage sales too. Then I hit the clearance racks, I bought two pair of jeans at Jcpenney for $2.50 each.

i waited as long as i could before i bought anything. I got most of my stuff altered until i just couldnt do it anymore. I can tell you this has been amazing and SO ANNOYING!!!! at the same time...because that shirt you got...you know, the one that looked great on you and was the right size but not on sale...yeah, well wear it as many times as you can...because in 3 weeks it will be too big...in 2 months its going to the homeless.....

i have donated thousands and thousands of dollars of suits, shirts, shorts....i mean you name it....i used to get all custom shirts....pft...gone...gave them away...i couldnt even alter them anymore. I JUST bought a new suit...I was so excited--big birthday present! ...yeah that was 2 months ago...I had to put it on this morning to go to court...doesnt fit...looks stupid.

So, it will just happen at all times...its really wonderful...it frustrates me...but hey...i'll take it. The funny thing is that after losing 120 lbs i dont realize what my size is...so i get scared trying on a L or XL ...i always no no no...that wont work...so i try on the XXL and it swollows me...so i say oh my god!? let me try the XL...too big...so i try the large...too short! hahaha!!! but the point is that 9 months later and i STILL try on the 2XL 1st... (i finally got myseld to stop trying the 3XL...)

I'm starting out with size 28 pants, and after losing 30 lbs they are baggy, but I'm still to big for 26/28. I hope I can lose myself out of this weird baggy/almost a size down thing!

Hehehe I bought a light blue summer skirt suit by Bay for ?4.99 yesterday in a charity shop. I don't think it has ever been worn and it looks tres chic for work.

I buy virtually all my clothes from charity shops or eBay these days. I find it fun and you certainly get really good quality designer gear for a snip.

Tonight I am going to a Sex in the City party wearing a Monsoon dress that I bought for ?20 off eBay, I am planning to go as Samantha (without the sex though) and I bought a cinch waist sequined belt and some big blinging jewellery to tart it up with. To top it all I will be sporting a bleached blonde wig and a burka!!!! The burka will only be for the entrance behind my husband the Sheikh. Should be a blast :001_smile:

Life is so much more fun now.

I didn't change sizes for a long time! It was discouraging but I seem to be in the pattern of if I am losing weight my sizes/inches stay the same... if I am not losing weight I am losing sizes/inches. I hit my first stall a couple weeks ago and in two weeks dropped 3 sizes. That was just bizarre!

So I started at a 20 and yesterday bought a 10 shorts and am now in Medium tops.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
