Kaiser Richmond/kaiser South San Francisco Gastric Sleeve Brothers And Sisters!

I am shocked to hear how rude and difficult the staff is at Richmond. S. SF is not like that at all. Everyone was very friendly and understanding and really went out of their way to be accommodating. I hope people are complaining about that lady because that is unacceptable.

Stacy, I can agree with Chrissy, infact I piled everything up on my scale to see how much it weighed before I went lol!

Lorden, not sure about the next meeting, but yes they had one this Saturday as a few of my friends went!

I am trying to figure out what I want to wear, I know I am going to wear my jeans and I have a pair of easy spirit boots that are pretty heavy, I don't know about a shirt yet.

I went yesterday and it was very informative, my favorite part was going out to lunch afterward. Not only did I have a great time, but I saw that you can eat and it won't be obvious that you had surgery. I had actually left after the meeting, but had to go to the bathroom before attempting an hour and a half drive. While I was in there I made myself go back to the meeting room and say hi to everyone. I am SOOOO glad I did! :)

:wink0:Hi ladies!

Thank you for thinking of me!

I'm officially 5 days out and thank God surgery was uneventful. So here's what's going on:

  • I have PCOS and got a cycle the day after surgery! Incredible but why now during recovery!!! Ughhh!
  • I'm started Full liquids yesterday (greek yogurt, applesauce 2 oz at a time) but the Isopure which would give me Protein makes me ill and Protein shakes sound horrendous right now. Any suggestions?

  • I'm not getting 1/4 of the liquids I need.
  • The bloating is FINALLY starting to work it self "out" LOL
  • I'm walking, and oh no BM yet.
  • Any suggestions!???

Lovingly,

monica:)

Oh yeah, day before surgery I was 222lbs, day of surgery 215lbs and today 209lbs) But I'm not feeling great about it because I feel ughhhh!:crying:

Wow! You Northern Cal Kaiser members are LUCKY! I had my orientation 2 weeks ago and will have to go to a 12 week class which starts in 2 - yes TWO - months.

Hi vkgirl,

Don't worry, I bet they will call you before that and tell you there's an opening sooner! I had my surgery thru Kaiser in LA (classes in Riverside) and when I first started the program, they seemed to make it sound like it would be several weeks for everything, but then it all went a little faster. It's as if they're giving you the worst case scenario just in case.

And if it makes you feel any better, the Options class used to be 6 mos long...they changed it to 3 mos just before I finished! And I thought it was stupid at first, but thank goodness they make you do it, because I see so many other sleevers struggle with how to eat after surgery, but the Options program really prepares you for it (so does this site!).

Good luck to everyone! Can you believe this surgery is totally free thru Kaiser??? What a blessing!

You're doing good. Just keep doing it. Walking, and drinking. I know it's hard, but force yourself to sip. You can try diluted chicken broth. It is easier on the tummy. You must get you liquids in. I did not get enough, the first week, and landed in the hospital with dehydration. So it is very important. As far as protein you can mix unflavored whey Protein powder into anything. Your applesause, greek yogurt, etc. What worked for me was Pure Protein Frosty chocolate shake, heated up as cocoa. It was very soothing, and has 35 grams of protein! You can buy it at Trader Joe's or GNC. But then again, I drink Isopure okay. Hope tis helps, you will be feeling much better in a few more days.

How do I know if I'm dehydrated?? It's the consistency of the protein that makes me gag...so thick, like I'm drinking goo!:crying: Is the unflavored why protein powder make food gooey too? I'm forcing a protein bullet down today...God help me!

Thanks for your advice! I'm grateful for all of you and your kind words:001_wub:!

Lovingly,

monica:001_tongue:

How do I know if I'm dehydrated??

You will feel weak, your blood pressure will be real low, and you will feel like fainting. They will have to re-hydrate you in the ER with saline solution.

Ohh boy this thread has TAKEN OFF!!!! YAY! I am so happy! Congrats on the surgery! Yes the first WEEK IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I couldn't drink anything at all. What saved me was sugar free popcicles. They are 2oz each. broth seems to go down a bit easier too. My best friend made me some yummy chicken Soup broth and I am still sipping of it. I got a "baby sippy cup" and I took out that plastic piece and it dribbles out. ANOTHER TRICK??? I know this sounds NUTS but I used a syringe to give myself fluids. I got one of the Medication ones and there is only like 1/2 ounce in it (from kaiser pharmacy) and I suck up my zero calorie Vitamin Water or my zero calorie sobe's and used that! It was just enough in your mouth you don't even have to swallow! It worked. I swear I would have been in the ER if I didn't do that! lol.

IT GETS BETTER I PROMISE!!!!! Now I am getting 32 oz a day and I am 10 days out and the dietician said I am cool. I finally bm'd by the 4th day. I was sooooo happy about that. lol. I even text all my friends about it! It was the best!!! lmao! My doctor said if you peeing and its not SUPER dark you are fine.

Lorden-I am SOOOO SORRY! I didn't see your post. Yes there was a meeting I was unable to attend. Next time I will post when it is!!!! Sorry!

Monica are you peeing? If you are you should be fine unless it is an AMBER COLORED. The first week is the worst! I gurgled, gagged, and was like "why the hell did I do this??"

Ashley puts her protien powder in her pudding. WEIRD!!!! KAISER RICHMOND does not do the whole protien shake thing!

STACY! I am so sad I missed you. My friend's baby shower. :) I was so sad I missed it! NEXT time! I can't wait to meet you!

OHH I know! I am TOTALLY complaining. I wanted to AFTER surgery though. lol!!! Make sure I got it! Yeah it is mostly ONE person but she is the case manager. I got a "review" after I got my surgery so I am for sure complaining. My husband and I also complained the last appointment I had to the doctor.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
