12 days out and no restrictions???

I was sleeved on june 3rd and I can already eat everything i did before the surgery!! I dont feel any restrictions!! Im already eating steak and I had cake for my sons birthday!! Is this normal?? It seems like everyone else cant eat anything but mush foods!! I just hope I didnt go through this for nothing!! any suggestions??

Definitely doesn't sound normal at all. Be careful! You are not healed yet. Call your doctor and a seperate nutritionist to confirm. My nutritionist is absolutely adamant about not having reg. food for 8 weeks! She explained that the stiches can open up and you can have bleeding. Call your doctor and another one too to confirm asap!

ok so seen the doctor today he couldnt believe it either!! he said i have a 38 bougie! he wants me to keep doing the post op diet they gave to me even though im not satisfied. he thinks im just in some kind of transition stage and soon it should change ( i hope) so he wants to see me back in 3 weeks to see if there has been a change!!

Just because you CAN eat those foods doesn't mean you should - a lot of us probably could eat the stuff if we tried but the reason for the suggestion of no completely solid food (like the steak) until 6 weeks out is so that the stomach & staple line can heal completely. Also the amount does surprise me. I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow and I can not eat more than 3 oz of anything, even the softest stuff. With denser stuff like cheese or soft meat (chicken salad, tuna salad) I'm between 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ounces. 5 oz of steak, that makes no sense.

All I can think of is.. you say you are going slow... how slow? We are told we should finish our meal in no more than 15 mins time. Yes you are supposed to eat slow, chew well, etc... but if you are sitting there eating for an hour, of course you can eat 5-6 oz because you are digesting as you go! At 20 mins you start digesting. So if you are not already, try ending your meal within 15 minutes... and also do not drink Water for up to an hour after, so you don't wash your food through. And no water DURING your meal that's super important. I hope this helps!

Quick question - are we EVER supposed to snack between meals - like on a few pieces of melon or string cheese? I haven't been hungry much at all until today and I seemed hungrier than before. So I had a piece of string cheese about 2 hours before my dinner and then a few pieces of fruit a couple hours after the meal. I am using 12gr yogurt as a supplement because I cannot get the Protein Shakes down without nausea (lactose intolerant).

NannieG- it depends on what you mean by snacking. What you are describing as 2 hours before, 2 hours after, sounds like what I am supposed to be doing. My surgeon tells us to eat 5-6 small meals a day, averaging every 2-3 hours. If you are eating 3 meals and then these Snacks you are doing pretty much the same thing... maybe try switching to a 5-6 meal a day plan since it seems like that's what your body wants to do. Make Protein the main part of every meal though!

I was told I should take 30 minutes to eat my meals no sooner! also I was told to only wait 15 to 30 minutes before drinking fluids! Its crazy how every surgeon says different things!

Plans do vary between doctors, but you still have to be careful as you move to solid foods on how soon after you drink. Sometimes it just depends on what food you ate. There are some foods if I were to drink normally 15 mins after eating it is likely to come spewing right back up. The dense foods that literally fill the sleeve up will not let liquid pass often unless you wait longer. My doc's general guideline is 30-45 mins after eating to drink, but there are still foods I will have to take a test sip and see how it goes before drinking more. As your food options expand you will get a feel that works for best for you.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
