July 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

EricsMom - I second everything JMO & KMO have said. 31 pounds is AMAZING!! You are doing so well at this, remember, you are the poster child, you are supposed to inspire us!!

Oh, and I'll bet your high-lites are super cute!

You're so funny!! I am going to totally regret posting that my doctor and I agreed I must be the "poster child" for this procedure because I hadn't any problems. Now if I do, I'll be hesitant to share! I don't profess to be perfect...I was just so happy that I didn't have pain, gas pains, or any other issues...

Thank you for your kind words :)

banded July 21, 2006

Dr. Pedro Kuri, Mexico

Hello July bandsters!! We can do it!!!!!

update:

I am so sick of pure'ed food!!!! I have gotten creative for the sake of Protein and staying alive...... One of the best was pureed chili with meat, it was great and high in protien. My worst was the pureed salmon that came out like catfood.... I am so excited about the mushies.

My port site is still sore, but not as bad.

Help:

My incision for the band (the middle incision) is not healing great, like the stiches didn't heal closed. It looks like a vampire bite. Am I the only one this far after banding with any scabbing? All my others are healing great and not very scabby.

Every scale I have been on has been a different weight. I bought one last friday and I can only go off that one..... I will weigh again on this coming friday, I am down about 15-20lbs from my highest weight, since biginning the pre op diet.

Thank you everyone for your honesty and information, it is invaluable!!!

Zoe

My DS and DH won't eat at a fast food burger joint of any sort since watching Super Size Me! I saw it too, and haven't had a burger since. It took me a bit longer to give up the fries and Fillet of Fish, though.

That movie was a real eye opener!

Supersize Me is a documentary about a man who at nothing but McDonalds for 30 days - Breakfast, lunch and dinner. If he was asked if he wanted to supersize his meal, he had to, but didn't if they didn't ask. He was monitored by a physician who checked his blood and cholesterol among other things. His liver started to show damage before the month was even up and he was strongly advised to stop the experiment on more than one occasion.

Here is a link to their web site...it really changes your whole perspective on fast food after watching it.

ewww that movie was SOOO gross... even the smell of mcdonalds makes me sick now! It also makes me feel like I'm so poor to have to eat that crap when I could spend 2 or 3 dollars more and get something healthy somewhere else!

I am with Matt on this one - I love McD's and all of its faults! Has anyone had the apple walnut yogurt "salad"? It is really good, but the yogurt is probably full of fat and sugar. On thing I thougth was interesting in the film is when he states that McD's is comfort food for people and then I realized everytime I got a cold or something I would crave a cheeseburger happy meal with Hi-C orange. Oh and the hot fudge sundaes...mmmm But those days are over now.

Ok, now I get to have 1% cottage cheese for dinner - yum!

Also, I found these yummy soy chips, they are super light and have 10 grams of protien in a bag! http://www.glennys.com/store/index.aspx

They have that crunch that I was missing. Oh and a small bag is 140 calories and no or low fat.ad-soy-crisps.jpg

Well everyone I am officially banded!!! Ouch lol. I had a great stay at the hospital (except for the night nurse didn't respond to iv slipping causing my hand to expand to the point i could not make a fist) I feel better today. My doc said I was the easiest she had ever done!! No problems except when I got home lol. Th wife has decided to eat nachos in front of me. Its not that I want to taste the nachos because I am not in the least bit hungry, I just see and can smell them and they smell so good. I am drinking my cream of Tomato Soup protien Soup watching the Detroit Tiger game and seeing how all of the July bandsters are doing. When I woke up a smile came to my face (I think because I woke up number one and it was finally over number 2) and then I couldn't help but shed a tear of joy. This has been the biggest test of my life to get to this point. When it is all said and done I cannot wait to see how much the July 06 group loses!!! Good luck to everyone!

Congrats to you Coach!! As a fellow Michigander (now in TX), I'm glad to see that all is well!! I also am not hungry but boy those smells and watching/hearing people crunch stuff is getting too me!! I'm having "food withdrawals" big time today. But, I'm committed to getting through these 2 weeks of liquids and on to mushies.

By the way, how do ya'll do with Tomato Soup? Have you had any problems with that? I didn't buy any cuz I though it might bother me.

I agree with you Coach...can't wait to see how much we all lose...lbs. and inches!!!

Woot - 11 pounds down in 5 days! My doctor prescribes 30-35 days of Clear Liquids and considers this stage a major jump-start in our weight loss journey. I am dying for Tomato Soup after reading the previous few posts :-) I think there will be some cheating in my future but we'll see. Can't deny that the weight loss is awesome and feels good.

First off thanks for all the support!! It is nice to hear other people who have food withdrawl as well. Well the Tomato Soup I have is from the Protein diet I was on before I was banded. Its not really a Tomato Soup per say as a tomato flavored soup lol (they always have to put flavored like my chocolate flavored shake and my strawberry flavored etc...) So I am still using those to supplement my Proteins as I want to keep the lean muscles I already have. I had tremendous sucess with this protein diet before surgery (85lbs+pre op) and both the surgeon and nutritionist said I could continue for my liquids portion of my phase I. I like the cream of tomato and the cream of chicken Soups they have. Tomorrow I am going to try a shake. I have been doing a lot of popsicles and even treated myself to pudding pops!! I wish all of you the best!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
