5days out & eating Hard food, is it to fast?

Recommended Posts

I laughed almost as hard at the people who scolded you as I did at your phunny post. When I first started reading your post I almost couldn't believe my eyes. I couldn't imagine how in the world you were able to eat enough pizza that there was none left for the kiddo. You're funny.

pizza is one thing that I've wondered about. I had surgery on the 28th of April so I'm a month out. I'm trying very hard to do all the right stuff. I want success so very much!! And so far, I'm doing fine. Losing little amounts every day. But I do worry that I'm going to eat too many calories so I write everything down all day long. I think that helps. I meet with the dietician in a couple of weeks. I'll probably ask her about pizza and alcohol. Not ready to party yet, but one day maybe.....

Good luck with your new tummy Mr. Bigga and keep the funny stuff coming. We need to keep our sense of humor and stay happy on this journey!

Ok , Ok < oK, :lol0::lol0::lol0: You got me... I had to re-read your post to "get it".. I am sorry for getting on you at first. I do care... I know that I havent physically met you but this is so serious for all of us. But we do need to laugh sometimes also. thanks for keeping it real.. It will get easier for you . the weight will go and so will your "nightmares" about food. You will have to disontinue your horrible relationship with food and began to have a positive one with food. take care :lol0::lol0::lol0::lol0:

My NUT said I cant start the full liquids four days out, but cause of shared stories I’ve read with other doctors wanting a full 7 to 10 days , I’ve decided to just stick to the SF Popsicles and broth for the 7 days.

Thanks Again for all the advice.

Ok to this part that was not a joke :lol0: I would say stick with your docs recomendations--why? Protein, Protein, protein! full liquids usually includes Protein shakes. Drink slowly and you will love the healing and energy protein brings you. Not because I said so of course--but to follow your doc's guidance. My doc had me on full liquids day 3 and man I loved getting some nutrition in and started feeling human again. Maybe it will clear up the pizza dreams :lol0:

I was laughing b/c I had read it through and realized you were kidding. I had a horrible time the first week after surgery perhaps b/c that grehlin (sp?) is still in your system. I could not find a calm state and I was in an all out food panic. But suddenly after all my hormone surges, and a bit of crying which my husband still says was the worst part (I think I was in shock b/c I hadn't taken enough time to prepare my head) - I was able to calm down and take things a bit slower.

Now I'm a little over 3 mos out. I honestly can have pizza and cheese dip now. It sounds good still actually, but if I do eat those things, especially the pizza, it usually wouldn't set well with me. I'm not a perfect sleever story, by any means, but with me I feel most content after a meal that is largely lean Protein, although a salad is nice with it, and this meal goes directly into my little sleeve rather than sitting uncomfortably in my esophagus first for too long. That improves little by little, but for me I still have to plan my meal so I choose foods that will pass through my esophagus and into my sleeve readily so I can feel full.

Truth is, we can never eat the way we were used to before. It is a physical impossibility now b/c our tummies are literally in the trash bin. I guess for some of us the only way we can live a healthier life. But your mind does adapt, pretty much. I'm not one of those that doesn't get hungry or have cravings still. But what I want is different b/c I want to feel comfortable and I want to have energy and I want to continue to lose weight. And I don't want to throw up or have food sitting in my throat. So in that way, what you want changes over time.

Best wishes to you.

:svengo: Nice! Pass me a slice of that imaginary pizza!

I'll take mine with a super-thin crust, lots of garlic, fresh Tomato slices and tons of big leaves of basil. Can't be that bad for me, right?

Wow Swifty, you've lost over 40 lbs.! That's amazing. I haven't updated my ticker lately but I will tomorrow or Tuesday. I am not even close though to what you've accomplished. You are a guy though and you did start out bigger than I did, so that's my excuse!

Hope everything is well with you. Right now I couldn't be much happier with my sleeve procedure. I would love to be able to drop 10 lbs. a week, but I am concerned about my health so I'm trying to go slowly and keep the Protein in healthy quantities.

I started Phase II also, but I having a hard time getting in enough Protein. I?m drinking shakes twice a day, drinking half of an Isopure , 3.5 16oz bottles of Water. I?m also able to drink about 2 4oz glasses of gumbo/soup juice. I?m staying stuff all day long and wondering who in the world I?ll add anything else in my diet.

Yea I know that pizza is out for now but not forever. I?ll just have to eat it a lot different. My wife makes one on a tortilla with ro-tells/tomato sauce and fresh shrimp and light cheese. It?s really good. :)

Hey Bigga,

Keep the jokes coming! :laugh0: But for the slow to catch on, like ME, give us a little by-line at the end that says "JUST KIDDING". :001_tt2:

I keep thinking about that thread you started somewhere else about the law enforcement personnel competition you wanted to attend a couple of weeks after surgery. What did you decide to do about that?

Congratulations and keep rockin that sleeve!

Well I just had to come down from that Macho Man tuff feeling and realized that I may feel great, but my body needs time to recover.

So I?ll be there but just helping coach the bases.

I start my day with a no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast mixed with 1 c skim or 1% milk and add to that one scoop of unjury unflavored Protein powder. that equals 33 Protein. You have to order Unjury on the internet, but it is great in instant Breakfast, you don't even know its there. Add one Isopure no carb drink a day and that adds another 40 gms of protein. And there you go!!!

Cool, that's what I was hoping you'd say. Just think, by this time next year you'll be at goal and on top of your game. :thumbup1:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
