Post Op Clears to full liquids

Recommended Posts

Hello Sleevers,

I went to Dr. Aceves who is very strict about Clear liquids for 10 days post op followed by another 10 days of full liquids. When did your surgeon OK full liquids? Also, should I be able to consume a full Jell-O cup with no pauses 5 days out? Is my pouch too big?

I am going CRAZY! I think 70% of commercials must be about food. I just want to eat something other than clears. broth, crystal light, Jello and popsicles are just not doing it for me. (Funny thing is...I don't think I am hungry, just want to stuff my face.) OK, I know this is YEARS, DECADES even of poor eating habits and it will take time to change.

I just want some Tomato and cream of chicken soup! Or how about some yogurt! I am going to pray through the clears and try to occupy my mind.

Any suggestions?

Can you walk when you get that urge to eat? I just had to get out of my house, and I sat on my porch to distract myself.

Your stomach isn't too big, maybe you heal quicker than others, that's a good thing. Your restriction may change in a couple of days, just eat slowly, and enjoy. Head hunger is not easy to overcome, but it does get easier.

Hang in there, just a few more days. My surgeon requires 14 days of clears (I had to do 17) and then 14 days of full liquids, and then 14 days of mushy/soft solids.

Come here when you need a distraction.

OMG..I know EXACTLY what you mean!

I can't even do broth..it makes me want to hurl.

And I've never been so aware of tv commercials about food!

I can eat a whole Jello cup at one time..just not first thing in the morning. I tried that the other day and could only eat 3 bites. But after a while...no problem.

I was able to start drinking Protein shakes on day 5 and I've never been so glad for something in my life...just for some variety!

Next weekend on day 10 I can add yogurt, creamed Soups, and sf pudding.

I was on clears the day before, of, and after surgery, and then it was full liquids from then on, with no problem (except for the time I mindlessly slugged back 2-3 gulps of Water before I realized what I was doing... oops!). That included Jello, yogurt, cream Soups (strained if there were chunks).

Don't worry if you think you're taking in too much with the liquids... maybe your stomach doesn't have as much swelling or the swelling's going down faster than some people's. I had the same concerns, when I could eat a full bowl of Tomato Soup in 10-15 minutes, but others reassured me that it was only because the liquid runs right through (although creamy stuff WILL make you feel fuller than clears). (btw, Tomato Soup with a spoonful of greek yogurt was my absolute most favorite, heavenly thing on liquids. :D ) Once you're on mushies, you won't believe the difference. I couldn't wait to have some refried Beans with sauce and melted cheese, Taco Bell-style, and was shocked to find that I couldn't even get down a quarter cup of them to start with. But dang, they sure were delicious after all the liquids and sweet Protein drinks! :confused1:

I cant do broth either, & the commercials about food are unreal. I never noticed that before.

I had clears for 3 days, full liquids for a week, then mushies - my favorite being meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas in the food processor. The best meal I ever ate!

I'm supposed to get 70 grams of Protein a day. How do you DO that with clear liquids? I can't imagine that broth has very much Protein.< /p>

The only thing I can think of is to buy a case of Isopure Plus and drink 5 a day.

Tell me, oh experienced sleevers!

Honestly, I have had a pretty easy time getting the Protein in. I drink broth that I made homemade. I drink flavored Isopure in a bottle which is 40 grams. I do 1 1/2 of those per day. that's 60 plus what ever I am getting from the broth. Then I make Jello and put the bullet liquid flavored in those and eat a little of that. I figure I am getting close to 70 if not that.

Steve, you can get them at any GNC store, also if you have a Vitamin shop around. If not you can order them online or from a vitamin shop catalog. Makes it so easy, it has been wonderful for me.

I filled my water bottle with Injury flavorless Protein and crystol light 2x a day. That was an automatic 40 grams consumed with my Water (I needed the crystal light to cover the "non taste" of the protein).... I also added a little benefiber to each drink.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
