Trying to kick my diet coke habit pre-op, anyone else?

Recommended Posts

My struggle was with Diet Dr. Pepper. I don't even have a surgery date yet, so I have succeeded in switching over to Diet 7UP (no caffeine) BUT aspartame, I swear, is highly addictive as well! I went two days without the stuff and was biting everybody's heads off! It's going to be really tough for me to kick the fizz craving as well....

I swear I am a true Diet coke Addict. I can sometimes drink 1.5 to 2 liters per day. 48 oz cups when I stop for gas, free cans at the office, oh my!

Anyway I have moved over to other drinks Water, tea, crystal lite starting today. I have stopped before and always feel crappy a couple of days getting past the caffine headaches and general desire for that fizz and taste. Therefore, I thought I should get past that before surgery so I don't have additional headaches. I swear they lace that crap with something --search Diet Coke and addiction on the web its out of control! :)

I think it's great that you are thinking ahead, breaking certain habits and learning so much before your surgery. Keep in mind that after the surgery you may actually loose the desire you had for diet coke. My tastes changed alot and some of the things I really enjoyed pre sleeve were repulsive to me post...Best wishes to you on your WL journey.

I hear you all! I was addicted to regular Coke and my daily routine was a large coke each morning from Sonic (the ice gives it something special!). Anyway, I did not give it up prior to surgery since I knew I would afterwards. The headaches those first few days after surgery were miserable. However, now that I am 14 days out, I have been surprised to find that nothing sweet appeals too me. Sweet tea (I'm a Southern girl, afterall) is too syrupy. Even tried Muscle Milk for the Protein and YUCK...way too sweet. I say all this to say, my desire for sweet coke has altered dramatically. I miss the fizz, but not the taste! Progress for me!

I was a diet coke addict before getting my band back in 2006. I had it for Breakfast, break, lunch, break, dinner, evening snack; basically, I always had a diet coke near me. I thought I would go crazy without them. But honestly, it wasn't that bad for me. I quit cold turkey and missed it for a few days. Now, I can't stand anything carbonated. It just feels really weird and uncomfortable in my tummy. Anyone experience that?

I was a hard Diet Coke addict as well. On my own I could easily polish off 6-12 diet cokes a day! I quit the night before surgery and dare say I took a small drink of one about a week ago... horrid, acrid pain! All contents of my sleeve were upchucked due to the carbonation. It's not the same. I miss it. The caffeine didn't affect me when I stopped, no headaches, nothing! It helped that I didn't want to drink much of anything post surgery. In theory I should've weaned a bit better but on the other hand, I have to say the way I did it worked fine.

HA Ha

I actually like the mocha's they have a 7-11, just don't even bother with them anymore. Plus not working, there is no reason to go out and buy a coffee. I'm so glad that I have never really been hooked on soda, it is hard enough with coffee!! And I WON"T be giving that up anytime soon.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
