Need advice from people who have made it through 21 day pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Hi -

I am on day 5 of my 21 day liquid pre-op diet. I completely cracked today and cheated when I got home. I just couldn't face any more shakes, broth, juice, Jello, etc... This is the first time I have doubted that I have the willpower to follow through with this huge change for the rest of my life. I am trying to look at this as a little bump in the road, but I am really beating myself up about it. I know that this is more mental for me than anything, and would love some advice from anyone who has experienced this.

Thanks so much!

Wow, the most people have to do is 2 weeks. My doctor only said 3 days but I will do it for 2 weeks. I think you will be fine...remember it will also be a month before you can eat after surgery.

Hey fellow Hotlantan VV! I hate that you're having to go through this when so many others have hardly any preop diet at all and do fine with the surgery. I'm sure doctors have their reasons for these things, but it seems kind of rough. I hope you're able to take it one day at a time and get through your pre-op stuff without too much stress. I think if we're all being honest with ourselves, your doctor knows that most people aren't going to make it through 21 days on liquids. They don't even require that AFTER the surgery...:)

Hang in there VV! You are going to be just fine. You had a totally forgivable slip, but the next 16 days you are going to be strong! Who ever thought Jello and broth would be so tasty!! :)

Can't wait for you to post after pics!

Thanks educationrulz I bet you are absolutely right - you must be a fellow teacher in ATL? Let me know if you come across any support groups in our area. :)

I just sleeved March 17. Let me say you need to have only clear fluids for the three days prior. If you do this it will lessen the gas pain that you have for first days after. I didn't do the three days and I paid for it.

All the best!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
