I dunno if anyone else has experienced this, but my surgery is scheduled for next Thursday and I have had all kinds of run around with my passport. I have been told that as long as I have proof that I have applied for my passport as well as ID and my birth certificate I will be allowed back in the country. That is what I was told by my coordinator. Anyone know if this is accurate. I don't wanna get stranded in Mexico!!!

Good point, you had better be sure. I'd go to your local passport authority and get the facts...in writing.

Wannalise, yes we checked with Customs and the Border Patrol

prior to my surgery 1-25 and they confirmed that as long as you have

the paperwork and receipt for payment for the passport and your photo

I.D. and birth certificate you will be allowed back in to the US. I was

prepared to make the trip based on that information and with us checking

oursleves instead of just the doctors office. Our passports arrived the

Saturday before we left on Sunday morning so I was lucky. I was going

even if they did not come in though.

Hope this helps.

:smile1:My friend who was going to meet me for surgery was worried about this also. She went and checked with the post office and said the same thing the coordinator did. I look forward to seeing you in Mexico!

If you have not received your passport and you are traveling soon, you can contact them and they can help you. You can also check the status on travel.state.gov. I just checked the status of mine and it gave me a date of when mine will be mailed out. My sister went to Mexico last year and she just showed them the receipt; however, they are now asking for the passport as you cross to Mexico so make sure you contact the passport office.

Ok well here is my question then. My surgery is April 20th. I am having to wait until April 1st to get my passport, and I was originally going to have it expedited ,which is an additional 60 bucks. On the passport website it says they can get it to you in two weeks, which would be just right, BUT I have had a couple friend try it and it not work out. I guess my question is if all I need is a receipt saying I have applied, do I really need to pay the extra 60, especially if it still may not make it on time anyway?

I was just in Tijuana in December and I don't have a passport. I had to have surgery quickly and did not have time. My coordinator assured me that they would be okay with it. If they gave me any grief just to show them my insisions!! Well going into Tijuana, they could care less, we did not even stop. Now on the way back it was a different story, the officer gave me a lecture!! I thought it was funny at the time. He kept going on and on about how I must have known that the rules changed. I said yes, yes, yes but that I had to have the surgery. Then he just waved us on like nothing happened.

Long story short, don't worry about it. You will be just fine! And good luck!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
