I went to a civilian doctor first because I have civilian insurance too. They only cover GAstric Bypass and I did not want that. So I went to the army hospital and they are going to do it with my Tri-Care Standard. They will file with my civilian doctor but it is not going to cover it.

I am new to the Military world as well as this site and I am in the beginning process of my amazing journey with weight loss. I am the mother of three and am very over-weight and unhealthy. I am trying to have all of my information and ducks in a row before I go to my first appt on Wednesday 06/23/10. I really want the VSG as I hear that it has better recovery times as well as it's just healthier for you all together. Any help from all of you would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Amanda

Not sure if this will help anyone else but...

I am a Tricare Prime Beneficiary. I live in the DC area. The DC Bariatric program(NNMC, Walter Reed and Belvior) is full and not accepting patients (you can't even get on the wait list.) However the Portsmouth/VAB/Norfolk area program IS accepting patients. After my referral was rejected by the DC area program I called down to NMCP confirmed they were accepting patients and called the referral management center at NNMC and they faxed my referral to NMCP. (Yay)

Do not call Tricare or Healthnet... they can not/will not help.

I found out when I was going through the process of seeing if I wanted to have it done in a Civilian hospital or the military hospital. Tricare(Standard) will not pay for the Sleeve in a Civilian hospital because they consider it experimental. But they will pay for it when I go to a Army Hospital.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
